What is the roles of Middleware in Client Server Computing

Middle ware is kind of glue to join different pieces of puzzle. in other word its a software which will make our job easy by providing the services from server and taking request from clients.

middleware is a software component which lies between client and server machine.it is a standardised interface and protocol between client and backend tools.It runs both on client and server side applications.
eg:TCP/IP,JAVA RMI,RPC,DCOM CORBA
