I have just installed a new ignition switch in my 1997 VW Golf GL (167,000 miles) because recently the stereo would not turn on at all during operation.  After a few days of more driving, the starter would stay on after the car was running.  As such, I decided that the culprit was a faulty ignition switch (as thid is a common symptom and problem associated with this particular car), everything started functioning perfectly again; stereo turned on and off with the car, starter was not stuck on, and all the lights were working great.  I was going to drive the car away on the night of the repair and the low beams just quit working.  High beams are still fine.  I pulled both left and right low beam fuses and both were fine.  Is it possible that I installed a faulty ignition switch in my car?  Or is it possible that I did not reattach everything properly?  Stumped as to how to high beams would still work and not the low beams.
