question for someone that may have ran into this. i have a 64 Chevy Pu with and older 350 small block A/T having problems with starter hitting real hard. I have put in two different units same style all looks good with 0.30 thousands gap from pinion to flex plate i have used up to 4 shims with same out come. I was told that maybe the nose cone maybe different on the starter. I thought there was only one style starter for the small block. It is really difficult finding a parts house that is willing to take the time out to help look up different starters for later Chevy blocks. i ran the numbers and this motor and trans and it fits allot of cars and trucks. Does Anyone have a list of OEM replacement stock numbers that i may use as a cross reference.
