I've had my tongue pierced for 3 weeks now and it is still swollen. I thought I followed aftercare procedures perfectly. Is something wrong?

You most likely followed the aftercare. I don't know what kind of piercer you had. But they could have been wrong in the piercing process. They could have given you a short barbell to start off with. I would go to another piercing parlor and check with them. I would also keep up on your salt-soaks, icing a lot, and don't eat spicy foods, and rinse every time something goes in your mouth, besides water.

i had my tongue pierced and i took it out for a year and put it back it went through and then the top i had to pop it back in there and now its numb and stuff and i ice it alot and rinse everytime i eat or drink or anything but its numb and  rowl spot it under the top ball what should i do?

krista, take it out! you can cause a major infection in your tongue. if you continue to wear it you may lose your tongue.

i want to get my tongue pierced but im kinda scared, is there a lot of big risks on this? wat should i do to take care of it?, also when they do it do they numb ur tongue before

i just got my tongue pierced and i have an indent on the top of my tongue where the ball rests..is that normal?

the indent under the top ball should disappear after teh swelling goes down and its all healed and stuff. if it doesnt after a few weeks you can always go to your peircing parlor and talk to them about it, they prolly know alot more than i do, or anybody else in this thing :) good luck

There is some greenish mucus seeping out of the hole where the ring is. I went to the piercer and he told me it was because I didn't rinse enough and it should clear up once I rinsed more. I am still a little worried about it (call it paranoia) and plan to go to the doctor monday morning. Does anyone think I'm over reacting?

NO ur not! u should go asap just to be sure.  Most would tell u to go back to the piercer but since that didn't help it is best to go to the doctor.

Do not listen to that piercer....your tongue is infected!!!!!!!!!!!! and yes ...indents are normal ...and YES some piercing places numb your tongue

the greeny mucus it just were the tongue is healing nothing 2 worry bout iv just got mine done n iv got it! i checked it up & the peircer just said its were the tongue's healing

Crystal, I think that you maybe just a little. But you should go have it checked out because when i got my done the that leaked out my tongue was a yellowish white color. Do you think that it could because or your barbell or something like that?

I hope you can help me out with some advice.  A couple of months ago, I got my tongue pierced.  I know it was a bad move, considering I am a type I diabetic, but I really wanted to do it, so I did.   Just as I knew it would be, my tongue was swollen for the longest time, and about 3 weeks after the piercing I developed an infection (I had a little bit of puss coming out from the piercing).  I called my physician and he told me to take the ring out and had me take some antibiotics.  A week later, the infection seemed to have cleared (though I still had a hardness around the piercing) I put the ring back on again. I've had no pain really... but two months after the piercing, a circle around the piercing is still hard, swollen I suppose. I took the ring off.  I think it's a shame to have it close after all the trouble... do you think there is any other way I can make this work without losing my piercing?

hi, I'm considering getting my tongue pierced. iv been looking forward to it but have been reading on here a lot about infections and the swelling lasting a lot longer than expected.i have college every day, do you recon it would effect my speach etc?

I'm having my tongue pierced at christmas. Yes, I'm a lad so don't get the wrong idea that i'm gay or nowt coz i'm not gay.  Does it hurt? What do they do when you get it done?

Crystal- there is no way your over reacting! if you leave it, it might become seriously infected and you might lose all the senses in your tongue. your doing the right thing.

crystal i think u shud listen to wot ur piercer told u and try rinsing it out more before going to the docters but if it makes u more comfortable with your piercing knowing everything is fine an normal then go through with it!

I got my tongue pierced back in like june of this year, and well the swelling wouldnt stop, I was always rinsing my mouth and everything, Doing everything the right way, Well.. It was a little over a week and the swelling didnt stop, then I noticed that the barbell went slanted really badly, along with the top barbell ball looked as if it was trying to push its way through my tongue :\, and the skin by the groove from the barbell ball was starting to tear in a line towards the front of my tongue so, I went back to the guy who pierced it and he said that happened to him and I told him i wanted to take it out so, Whenever he was taking it out I felt a BIG relief of pressure. And thats that, But.. Im really wanting my tongue pierced but, Im afraid that the guy who pierced it before, Pierced it wrong and im afraid to get it done again because I dont want it to be pierced wrong again for the second time, I also heard it hurts worse the second time around if you've had it pierced before, Is this true? If anyone could help me out. Please do! =D

i just got my tongue pierced, and i heard its bad to rinse your mouth out with mouth wash, but when i got it done the guy told me to rinse my mouth out with mouth wash. is that a bad thing that i do that? and another thing. my tongue is a weird color and i don't know why?

Crystal, you're doing the right thing by making a doctor appointment. mucus should not be coming out of your tongue. don't freak yourself out but don't get too laxed about it either. you may have to end up taking it out. good luck, i hope it's nothing serious.

getting your tongue periced doesn't really hurt. it hurts for a second when you get it done and then after that its OK. is uncomfortable to eat for a few days after ans you talk kinda funny. yeah they do numb it. they squirt a few drops of numbing spray in your mouth and u swish it around your mouth. i also have an indent in my tongue, but the swelling hasn't gone down yet as i only got it done last week. i think the greenish mucus is normal. just keep rinsing your mouth and carry water with you everywhere.

I have been wanting my tongue pierced for a long time now and I really would like to get it done...I told my mother I was going to get it done and she said No!! I told her I was plannin on doing it anyway even if she said yes,but I would rather her Agree to it because I would get in deep Trouble lol haa..im 15 gonna be 16 in less then a month and I think Im old enough to know what I want. But My mom said that she would ask a doctor about risks and stuff because she is a very protective mother, Im really hoping she will say yes, Can anyone help me with information that would maybe help me get om her good side about it? i got my tongue pierced two days ago. It's still swollen, which i know is normal, but it started bleeding and it bled for like an hour. It bleed at little after that. Is that okay? It also has this white ring and an indent around it. is that okay?

uh ew the green mucus is puss and its from being infected. use salt water. if its swollen lift up the ball from underneith and sprinkle salt in the hole leave it until it stops stinging and rinse it..the swelling will go down

i just my tongue pierced and now i seriously can not eat at all. ive had it for a week now and all i can do is drink w. a straw. and ive been iceing it since i got it. its also VERY swollen. what are ways i can eat?

yuyu there are a lot of risks involved like permanent numbness, pain, loss of taste, gum injury, prolonged bleeding, oral hygiene problems, and post placements swelling.is also a possible vehicle for transmission of hepatitis b,c,d,and g and HIV. so yuyu you better think about it before you do anything.

Hiya ive had my tongue pierced 4 about a wekk and its not swollen n dusnt hurt or anyfin and i rinse my mouth out loads but recently thers bin sum mucusy stuff cumin out from the top n especially bottom, should i worry??

that happened to me.. it was there for a week and i was forced to take it out b/c it hurt alot.. and the barbell was too small.. today im getting a new piercing *the 1st was about a year ago*

ok 4 starters 2 the person who was scared about gettin her tongue pierced, IT DOESNT HURT!!!!!!!!!! U CANT EVEN FEEL IT WEN THEY PIERCE IT! i admit the day afta i was almost gonna go insane from the pain, but just think, wen its all ova u will hav ur tongue pierced.. ok the chik whoz tongue was still swollen afta like 3 weeks, ive had mine for a week and the swelling has gone down so i duno, i guess i took reeli good care of it, brushed, rinsed with salt water, and used this mouth wash stuff for tongue piercings, anywayz i think u should allll get ur tongues done coz they r sik, anyway, cyaz late

Crystal, you have the one thing that i was afraid of getting with my tongue. your tonge it deffinately infected and you are not over reacting. if you don't go see a doctor and have it profestionally cleaned out you are running the risk of getting an infection in your lungs and or your might even have to have your tongue cut off. So let a doctor look at it and clean it out.

this is normal crystal. on any piercing you have, a scab will form, but because of the saliva in your mouth your tongue cant form a scab, so basically this mucus is just the tongues form of a scab. just make sure you keep the piercing clean. if u r rinsing with mouthwash dilute it with 1/4 water-otherwise neat mouthwash can damage enzymes on your tongue which help the healing process. if you are still worried-its always a good idea to visit the doctor to put your mind at easr.

i got my tongue pierced 4 days ago and i've followed all the after care procedures, yet my tongue is still numb in the center of the tip where the vice grip thing held it.  is that normal for it to still be numb?

does getting your tongue pierced hurt less that your nose or belly button, i got both of those done, without much pain at all. What do you think? what is your advice close the eyes, because when i got my other piercing they wouldn't let me look at the needle or look when they pierced it, and it seemed to work.

No i don't think you are overacting this is your tongue you should always be cautious, I think it is great that you are taking different measures to prevent your self from having an infection.

ok one thing people NEVER USE SALT SOAKS UNLESS ITS INFECTED salt soaks will keep the wound open until u stop using it so dont use salt soaks unless u wanna keep ur piercings open

Crystal f they have told u it should b ok if u rinse more,then try rinsing more 4 a few days and c wat happens! They say its natural 4 it 2 seep with yellow-greenish puss....as long as ur tongue doesnt hurt! But this is only an opinion! Do wat u want f u r worried! X

You are definitely not paranoid. It's a good idea to check with a doctor, maybe some antibiotics will help heal quicker.

YUYU Yes they do numb your tongue before they pierce it its taste of banana bit horrible but you don't feel the piercing good luck

I have had my tongue pierced for about 2 1/2 weeks now and I just got a bump on the front of the piercing it doesnt hurt but i know it shouldn't be there...Do you know what is going on?

Go to a health care provider immediately if there's thick fluid oozing from the site that's yellow-green in color don't you know that's a symptom of how an infection starts. Go directly to the doctor, the hospital if possible. An Infection can cause you to loose your tongue.

Ive had my tongue piercing for a month now and this never happened to me. I just recently changed the barbell. Maybe you had a short one in the first place. You really should go get it checked out before anything serious happens.

That mucus is normal.  Your tongue is still adjusting to the foriegn object in it.  This should stop within the healing period.  Mine stopped about 3 weeks into healing.  There is nothing wrong, and no paranoia needed!!!

Calm down it's all right to be afraid or scared, just make sure you eat the right foods and drink a lot of liquids. Also to clean your ring and change it at least once every week.

i had my tongue pierced on saturday morning..it's now wednesday morning and it's fine..it hurts sometimes..like when i first wake up and start to move it..and it hurts a bit when i eat..but seriously people who can't eat with it..just put the food on like the left or right hand side at first..dont try to eat normally..coz it'll just make it hurt more..

I had my tongue pierced yesterday in a really legit place but it hasn't started to swell yet, in fact my tongue really hurts and its gone a bit white-ish... will it be ok if just continue to wash it in salty water? shall i stop eating for a while?

No it is not unusual... infact i just looked it up on the internet for you, this is what i found it is not unusual to see a yellow secretion coming from the piercing. This is not pus, however. It is blood plasma, lymph and dead cells, and it indicates that the piercing is healing. SO GO YOU!!!! i just got my tounge done too!!! have fun!

Yellowish mucus is normal a green coloured mucus usually means an infection rinse after u eat brush and floss at least twice a day and do some sea salt soaks with warm water. MAke sure it's sea salt and not just normal salt. Add only a little bit of sea salt to the warm water about two pinches and rinse with that too. You want to get an antibacterial, NON-ALCOHOL mouth wash for example - Oral-b or Biotene. Drink a lot of water and keep ur mouth nice n clean. NO kissing or nething like that. Hope it gets better

The doctor will tell you to take it out.  Dont take it out... you could let the tongue heal up with the infection still in the middle!  Rinse with mouthwash that has alcohol, it may burn, but it will get rid of the germs. Do it after EVERY thing you eat or drink.

Crystal, That green mucus stuff is called lymph and its perfectly normal. Its just your tongue healing. You still keep washing and all that and if you can, try and get some Harnica: these are sugary tablets that melt under your tongue and help it stay uninfected.

I got my tonge pierced 5 days ago, and i recently noticed a white circle in the bottom of my mouth where the ball rests. Is this from an irratation from the tongue ring or could it be an allergic reaction to the metal? is it normal to have a white spot on the bottom of your mouth? It hurts, and i was wodering if it will eventually go away.

Well from what I've heard, if you're getting any kind green mucus comming out it could be getting infected.  For now I would just keep cleaning it and making sure you are rinsing it every time after you eat.  And don't take out the earing, just wait till you see the doctor.

It's most likely a combination of white blood cells and platelets (cells used for creating blood clots). They should disappear after you rinse and are perfectly normal. And another thing, if you're piercing gets infected, DO NOT REMOVE IT. removing jewelry from an infected piercing will actually make the infection worse, rather than better. Talk to your doctor, get antibiotic, take antibiotic, relax.

No, I don't think you are over reacting, any kind of leaking is not a good thing, especially green.  What I suggest for rinsing is to use a non-alcoholic mouth wash and half water, rinse it after every meal and try for every hour.  I know that is alot of time, but believe me it is worth.  Also you can rinse with salt water.  When you are rinsing your mouth out try to wiggle your tongue so the barbell will move and the mouth wash will get to as much of your tongue as possible.  If you are doing this already, then I think you should go to the doctor, but usually it is a better practice to try to get the infection to go away with the piercing in because this will allow for proper healing.

my sister has had her tongue pierced 2 times. she had to take it out the first time because it rubbed a hole in her gums. if you don't take it out there could be serious things to happen to your tongue!

umm green can mean infection..little  you can use mouth wash. there also is this stuff i had to use. i dont remember the name. im sure someone does . it cleans it good. and the indent on the top can stay for a while it depends on your tongue.and when you get it peirced it doesnt hurt. belive me. im the biggest baby and when i got it i didnt even feel it go in!:0)

Dont rinse to much b/c that can harm you just as bad as not rinsing. Green stuff? not normal...usally its white or an off white discharge but not GREEN! BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!

Yuyu don't be scared to get the tongue piercing.  I have had my ring for about 4 years and no problems to date.  As long as you don't have a problem brushing your teeth you should be fine with after care.  THERE IS NO PAIN INVOLVED WITH THE PIERCING, ONLY SURPRISE.  ITS A PIECE OF CAKE OR PIE.  GOOD LUCK

I want to get my tongue pierced, too. My mom says I need to wait until I'm 18 and out of her house. I'm seventeen right now, so I figured I would get my tongue pierced as an early graduation present to myself. My girlfriends want to get their noses pierced...and I already have that done. I also have my navel pierced. I have three holes in each ear, and now my heart is set on having my tongue done. I'm really excited, but also nervous. But like I said, it's something I am looking forward to. I'm not sure how this is going to help anyone. Oh, well.

i really really want my tongue pierced and I'm thinking about having my friend do it with a nail...shes done a lot and they all don't come out great but thats not what I'm worried about...plus my parents wouldn't let me. what should i be worried about if i do this?!?

Wow, so not over-reacting. Good thing you are going to the doctor. You need to take that thing out. Remember when you had your ears pierced? When they turned green and crusty that meant they were infected. Same thing here. Take it out!

Its most likely doing that because its not totally heeled. Make sure you rinse and take the best care you can of it. If it continues to do that after a week i think u should go back to the piercer. Hope I helped you out!

take out your ring. there is no reason that it should be seeping out mucus. Just remember that not everybody is meant to have a ring and unfortunately you may be one of the few that can't have one.

Green mucus= pus = white blood cells fighting infection= Go get it checked out, but chances are it'll heal up with a bit of tlc in the form of mouthwash. The trick with tongue piercings is to remember that it's a wound, same as if you had a cut on your arm- if it leaked pus you would disinfect it and keep an eye on it. I suggest you up your oral hygiene routine.

ok for crystal your over reacting.. your tongue will do it mine did its just healing and it will do it for a couple of weeks..   the lil indent thingie is normal too its just because ur ball was resting on ur  while it was swollen.. my  stayed swollen for a lil longer than 3 weeks just keep sucking on ice, don't use straws,no milk,and every time you drink or eat anything clean your piercing with some Listerine thats half way dilute with water.. than once a night clean it with a tea spoon of sea salt in a cup of warm water let it sit for a bit than spit it out and repeat the process until ur cup of water is gone.. i have 21 body piercings and pierce as well.. but just remember you know more about how your body is feeling than anyone else.

I have had my tongue pierced since I was fourteen.  Nothing has happened to my tongue.  Never got infected or anything.  You really need to take good care of your mouth.

I got mine done last year and i have the same stuff it's really Gross but i changed the bar bell and it went away i think it was the metal they used plus...Lauren they do use freezing in some places so maybe we are 8 pssh..

NO......it is a good thing to keep an eye on things like that....Its good to be overreacting when it comes to a tongue piercing because a number of things could happen with that.....I would say go to the doctor and rinse MORE!!!

Hey I think from what I've been reading if its still swollen after 3 weeks something is wrong... I just got mine pierced(normal, centre tongue piercing) and wow i love it but it hurts.. And I'm a bit scared I'm told that tomorrow morning it will be REALLY swollen lol.

Is the mucus seeping from the bottom? If it is, then that's normal. But it shouldn't be green. It should be coming out white around the ball at the bottom of your tongue. Is your tongue hurting you? Is it still swollen? If so, this might be a infection. It's a good thing that your going to the doctor, but he/she might make you take it out. Whatever you do, DO NOT go back to the place you got it at.

dont worry about the pus. its just a small infection and after a couple of days of using listerine to clean it it will go away. my bet is 2-3 days max. u got nothing to worry about that happens often

No,You are not over-reacting. I was told by my piercer that the greenish discharge is a sign of an infection. So definitely go to the doctor, visit a different piercer and eventually if nothing works, take it out.

Crystal I hope yr ok! ..I rinsed with Saline and did ok, but did better after I added (PURE) lavender essential oil...6 drops...to my litre of saline. I also added a few drops of GSE (Grapefruit seed extract).   But greenish stuff sounds like you may need antibiotics ASAP. Good Luck =)

I'm thinking of getting my tongue pierced. i heard that there are alot of serious problems that can arise.such as; heart conditions, closing of airway due to swelling, severe bleeding, and swallowing the post leading to the intestines or stomach ripping open. that last one is my main concern, because it will probably kill you. also, if i decide to get my tongue pierced they say i shouldn't be "active" with my girlfriend for 4-6 weeks. is that true or can we be together before that?

im supposed to be getting my tongue pierced in a few days but my dad went on about how it could mess me up if they pierce a nerve or sumthing else..is there any MAJOR hazards i should watch out for? if so pleaseeeee let me know haha cause im really worried?..

im 14 and iv had my tongue pierced for about 3 weeks now, my tongue only went fat for about 2 days, and every thing has went perfect since! im quite happy with it. please people before you get it done find a decent piercer because its alot safer, the first time i wanted my tongue done my mam sed no coz the piercer i went to wasnt qualified nd she was onli 19, a week l8ta i got it done at durham at 'dare you piercing' the owner , julie, is gr8 shes kind nd frendly u lot shud go there!

Nah, alwys best just to get it checked really.. you do't want to find you have anything major wrong with your tongue. i generally think it's better to be safe than sorry isn't it??? Even if something is wrong, the doctor can give you anti-biotics for it. xx

Yes you are over reacting.  That greenish mucus stuff is just like a scab that you would get like normal, but instead its in your mouth.  Since it is always wet it doesn't dry like the normal scabs, instead it slimes out.  Kool huh? hah well I was worried to until i read about it online.  Have fun with ya piercing.

Im not worried about the pain or anything as i know i can deal with it ... but i have to hide it from my parents as even though i am 16 they are extremly strict and i cnt be arsed wit the hassle ... but also i have a heavy social life meaning i drink and smoke quite a bit .. is this a problem?

I got my tongue pierced 5 days ago..It is still really painful..I have been putting anbesol around it for the pain..Is this a bad thing to do. It seems to be helping. Also someone told me not to eat dairy products after my piercing..Is this true? Is it really necessary to rise your mouth with salt water? I have been using Listerine everytime i eat or drink something..Is that enuff or do i really need to use the salt water? Ok..One more question..in a stop around my  tongue ring is a little yellow spot..It doesn't look like the rest of my tongue..It's just a tiny spot. What could that be?

i've had my tongue pierced for a week now and it's not swollen, it doesn't hurt, it looks perfectly fine. but it bleeds a little bit everyday and the erie thing is that it bleeds around the same time everyday....could this be my healing process??

i had my tongue pierced 3 days ago and i love it so much :) it hurts a bit and i have a lisp but hopefully that will go when my tongue stops being swelled.  Iv noticed that theres strange gunky stuff on my tongue...im not sure if this is becoz iv started using mouthwash to clean it any ideas? also is it okay to clean it with listerine? i read somewhere that this can be bad for tongue piercings.

ur not really over reacting its good to worry about it. but definitly use mouthwash after u eat or drink. but for the ppl who ask if it hurts, to tell u the truth, it hurts more the next day then the  actual piercing. the piercing only hurts fro about 2 minutes.

i think u should go to the doctor and check it out my aunt had nerve damage cause of her tongue ring and had to learn to talk and walk and the whole left side of her body goes numb. so your not overreacting your just doing what u think u should do cause your scared i would do the same thing.

I myself am also thinking about getting a tongue piercing and although I don't ahve one I do know a lot about piercings. I would recommend going to the doctor just to get a brief examination to make sure that everything is clean and healing properly. (its very normal to over react when it comes to your health :P)

They say that seeping of your tongue after piercing is normal, take it a step at a time, and take care of it yourself at first. If it doesnt stop in a couple of days, then see the doctor, but this is normal for a "just pierced" tongue. is there swelling ?

I just had my tongue pierced exactly one week ago. It is still a swollen under the bottom and it appears to be white on the top and it is making an impression in the bottom of my mouth. I am confused about all the advice i am receiving. My piercer said not to eat dairy products and I could rinse with Listerine, then i read something that said not to rinse with Listerine and dairy products do not matter. Should I be concerned?

this is in answer to the girl krista. do not take the bar out until the infection has healed over. if you take it out while it is infected the skin will heal over the infection and will trap it inside. this will create an absess. anyone with an infection should consult a doctor asap and continue to clean with salt water untill this appointment. hope this helps everyone.

Hello everyone, my name is Chris, and I got my tongue pierced on Sunday the 27th of November, I was really lucky with my tongue. I have not Experienced  any swelling at all and the bar after 3 days still sticks up about 5-6mm, on the 1st day I noticed a whiteish kind of looking discharge coming from the top hole, I asked my friends who had their tongue done and they said it was apart of the healing process, and all of the website I've looked at all say the same thing, so I'm not really worried, It's only there in the morning and at night time, but I still rinse with diluted Listerine and also Sea Salt Soaks atleast 3 times a day, It doesn't hurt anymore only in mornings, and I also noticed that there is skin growing around the top and bottom hole, which indicates the healing process... Good Luck to everyone who wants to get their tongue pierced, remember always go to a PRO!.

I have had my tongue pierced for about 5 days and I always use listerine and Gly Oxide every time I eat or drink. Also in the morning when I get up I get a Glass of Ice water and 2 Motrins to help me eat and it helps alot. And I even torn my a little so don't worry it will heal just go to Any drug store and get Gly Oxide drop it stairt on you tongue where it is pierced i promise it will help.

Ok hun you need to go to the doctor. i have a terrible memory problem and i dont wash my mouth out very often. i do when i smoke though. i have had mine for 3 weeks and i have NEVER had anything come out of my hole. and since it is green. dont even go to the piercer, go to the doctor! crystal now i dont know a lot about tongue piercing but it sounds pretty gross and i think that you should prolly take it out but that is just me if the piercer said it should be okay if u rinsed it more than they are prolly rite

i don't think your over reacting i would be freaking, i think you should get it checked out just in case. i had my tongue done yesterday and it is really sore and swollen. but i'm really worried that because i smoke it is going to get infected! does anyone know if it will??

Crystal,no,you can never be too worried about this. I think you are doing a good thing by going and getting it checked out, even if the doc tells you the same thing!      This is for yuyu, Dont be scared. I just got mine done and it didnt hurt me at all, the only bad thing about it is it hurts for a day or two afterwards, you cant really eat so I suggest you eat a big meal before you get it done and try not to get too nervous or else you will make yourself sick or you could make yourself pass out. Just take deep breaths, try not to think about it, look at something else to get ur mind off of it before you get it done. And to take care of it you must rinse your mouth with mouth wash (I use scope) after EVERYTIME you eat or smoke. Good Luck :) Its really not that bad and you will LOVE it after its all done!!

crystal yea u kinda are...i mean i would be weirded out and scared too but my friend hers did that and she rinsed more and everythings fine...she still has hers to this day...mine on the other hand hasnt done that yet...just remember to rinse after anything thats not water INCLUDING SMOKING

Trust me yuyu it doesn't hurt at all 2 get ur tongue pierced it hurts a couple hours later it does but then eat ice or slurpee's realli help alot..but ne wayz it is realli niice 2 have...

I have my tongue pierced and everytime i take it out for a day and put it back in the next day the bottom is sort of closed up and i have to break the skin!! Should i keep doing that???

Crystal, your piercer is going to know more about it than the doctor (if you went to someone reputable). Its likely your doctor will say... " go and see your piercer for advice." rinse you mouth 4-5 times a day with saline solution or alcohol free mouthwash, after food or whenever it hurts. i had exactly the same problem as you and when i rinsed more it was fine in 3 days :)

Just be religious about following the after care instructions and you'll be fine. Your piercer knows what s/he is talking about. Going to a doctor at this point is just a waste of time and money.

Um well I just got mine done and I don't think that you should worry i clean my more than 20 times a day and I have discharge... Its normal.. I talked to my friends about it. But my question is why is my tongue numb its only been 2 days but its annoying will it always be like this?

i have had my tongue piercing for a month and just 2 say that it doesn't hurt when u get it done just for a while afterwards. I was so scared bout the pain and getting my tongue infected but just 2 say that it is the best thing i have done

I think you have a right to be concerned about your health, and I completely think you should "over react". If you feel something ins't right with your piercing the best thing to do is take it out or consult your doctor, expecially if it's oozing green stuff!!! don't think of it as over reacting, think of it as being responsible. um ya, i have a bit of a problem... i got my tongue pierced and the top barbell it like stretching the hole a bit...there's an indent, but like, the top layer of skin isn't there anymore...is this ok? the swelling is completely gone, but it's still like that. when i take the ring out, the hole looks like it's huge and the barbel sinks into my tongue a little...help?

No your not over reacting but if the guy told you to rinse more and you didn't the doctor is only going to tell you to do the same thing. which would only waste your money on going to the doctor. S o you should try to rinse EVERY time you eat drink and smoke (if you do)

Hiya! I had my tongue done 3 weeks ago! a couple of days ago i woke up with a swollen eye, could this be anything to do with my tongue piercing. i was ill when i was younger i had a bug called orbital celulitis and im worried it could be that again. Could it just be an allergic reaction?

i had my tongue piecred today and im trying to avoid as much swelling as i can, i am discomfort now at 8 o clock and i had it done at noon. any advice to avoid swelling as much as poss, i do understand some is un avoidable

crystal, that "mucus" could quite likely be it healing. your mouth doesnt create scabs, and the leaking stuff may be all part of the healing process. however, green mucus doesnt sound that good, and i've just realzed by now youve been to the doctor and everything. nvm.

no ur not paranoid. it's healing. when piercings heal they puss which is part of the healing process to any cut or piercing for that matter. ya u should clean it morning and night but not to an excessive amount. definately get it checked cuz wouldn't u rather have it forever after u get it checked than without it and a messed up tongue?

no your not over reacting.  but you should probably give it another week or so to see if the mucus goes away.

i got my tongue pierced about a week ago! n it still bleeds but when it bleeds it bleeds for about 5 Min's! but it does it nearly every day????

i got my tongue done 2 days ago, and it is still really swollen and the underneath hurts when i talk. I went with 2 of my buds and mine is back futher than theirs..is that okay?

Yes, I think you are over reacting a little bit. It is just puss, my tongue did it too.. When you start rinse more and a little longer maybe, it will clear up and you tongue will be perfect. =)

I just got my tongue pierced today and I'm freaking out because there is a small spot on the tip of my tongue I can't feel that much.... Is my tongue going to fall off???

You might have greenish mucus due to rinsing it too much. But first go to another piercing parlor and ask for their opinion. Then if it's the same thing, try rinsing it some more. but if you still want to go to the doctor, go ahead, your not overreacting. you're just concerned about your health.

yeah you're over reacting. just keep rinsing, and taking care of it. eventually, your tongue will be fully healed and all will be okay. don't freakkkk, chill out.

i just got my tongue pierced and i got some white stuff coming out the top.  apparently thats just the dead cells which indicates healing, im hoping so anyways ,  its still a bit swollen but my tongue is also a bit yellow, i think its from the sea salt drying out my tongue , anyways , if your thinking about getting your tongue pierced, id say go for it , i dont regret it   * happy piercing =)

i just got my tounge pierced about 3 days ago... and theres this huge indent lol it looks funny like my tounge has formed around the upper ball... but now im speaking normally and the swelling is going down a little... still kinda hard to eat though... i just want to get an overnight plastic replacement for my tounge so there isnt a huge indent... think that would be smart?

I had my tongue pierced for the second time this past Friday and mine has a little bit of puss too, however mine isn't green. Just keep rinsing and it will clear up. If it doesn't get better, you might check with your doctor.

I'm thinking about getting my tounge pierced, but I think I want mine frooze! I had my nose pierced 3 times, but I didn't deal with the pain so well the last time. Has anyone had there's numbed or frooze?

i was at my friends house last night and we decided to pierce my tongue. my tongue is really swollen but im still able to eat and drink.. but i have a lisps. how long until that swelling and lisps go away? and i drink water all the time now. will that help it heal quicker?

I just got my tongue pierced like 4 days ago and it seems to be healing nicely. The man at the parlor told me I should wash my mouth out with listerine every time I eat or Drink (except water) But other's say don't use it that you will infect it. Can someone tell me which is correct?

i got my tongue pierced and its five days later and its still really swollen but i`ve been talking alot, and smoking, but i`ve been rinsing my mouth out everytime i do anything and it doesn't hurt

I have my tongue pierced three times. and i recommend to everyone not to do it. I don't know what the problem is but the one on the far right is ALWAYS swollen and sore. I'm almost to the point where i cant take it anymore.

I had my tongue done yesterday,I could talk fine and managed to eat a burger a few hours after as well (it took a bit of effort mind) But they used something to numb my mouth,I'm not sure if they do it in every shop,but it really helps.

I tongue pierced last week, its completely painless and the swelling has gone away, I still have a dent in my tongue but I think that is because I have my large tongue bar in. But my tongue is a kinda yellowy/whiteish colour and it never used to be until I got it  pierced. Is this normal? How can I get my tongue back to normal colour :s I always wash it and use mouthwash after eating and in the morning and the evening. xx

I've just gotten my tongue pierced by a professional that has been piercing for 10 years now.. She told me to rinse my mouth out after i eat or drink anything besides water.. But i went to this place online and they said that over rinsing your tongue piercing with listerine ( the antiseptic kind) can cause thrush a nasty mouth disease.. If it bothers you so much go to your dentist and ask them what you should do.. They might suggest taking it out.. Oh and don't rough play or move your tongue ring. When you move (rotate the bar) it's irrating your tongue, try not to talk as much until you think its fully healed or until your confident enough that it won't irrate the piercing.. Here's the site i checked out. www.tikitattoos.com then go directly to aftercare they have all the answers to your problem.. Because of them my tongue is doing great and its not infected.. :)

hey, i got mi tongue pierced about 6 hours ago, it is really sore to move and i am really hungry, i am eating apple sauce is that OK to eat before it heals?
