I'm assuming you want to compare the *writings* of Jordan to the *writings* of Tolkien.  If you want to compare the authors themselves to each other (i.e., where they were born, life experiences, etc.) then I think you will find they are quite different from each other, except that both are great authors.

Here are some basic ideas for comparing the Wheel of Time to The Lord of The Rings:
=======
Lan = Stryder (mysterious warrior, more than they seem, both are kings)

The Two Rivers = Hobbiton (both are rural, forgotten, peaceful corners of the world)

Moiraine = Gandalf (wise, see the big picture long before anyone else)

Trollocs = Orcs (savage servants of evil, both are partially human)

Dark One = Sauron (powerful master of evil)

Shayol Ghul = Sauron's tower [Orudrin? not sure...]

The Blight = Mordor (dark, nasty, evil place)

Ogier = Wood Elves (love the forest, live a long time, peaceful except when provoked)

Baerlon = Bree (rugged frontier town, the innkeepers are hospitable & they know Moirane/Gandalf)

You can go into a *lot* more detail if you want, for example you could compare how magic works in TLOTR to the One Power in TWOT, or you could compare the history of Malkier to that of Gondor, etc.  There is really no end to the comparisons.
