I really don't know ,but I have a little Jack Russell and when she holds her paws up like that she is saying please, my doggy will be 2 in May . Jack Russells are very smart, I always had a out side dog until I got my JR.

I just got a JR puppy about a week ago, and he always holds his paws together like that, but when he does it he moves them just like he was digging.  He always crosses his legs like that so I think it just something they do

I have a JRT that does the same. If you hold him under his belly, he puts his front paws together in an overstretched manner. I was told that this is a bred-in instinct as JRT where lowered into holes to hunt foxes. Any truth in that?

I have a 2 year old JR and he will straddle my arm (behind toward my face) and hold onto my lower arm with his front legs and tries to put his favorite ball into my hand. I think they are very clever and learn very quickly what works for them. They are very assertive and we belong to them.

When you have the two dogs together give your older dog ALOT of attention and praise, but when you have your older dog on it's own don't give as much attention to it, this way it will realise that the other dog is great to have around because it means more attention for him!
