what is affect of virus on software?

A computer virus modifies a program to include a (possibly modified) version of itself.

The virus consists of these parts:

a) Propagation code
b) Propagation trigger
c) Payload code
d) Payload trigger
e) Signature

The "effect on software" all depends on the
payload code.  The payload can be benign
or malignant.  I hope you find this brief
