Hi, i am trying to find out what's the problem with my oxs light indicator, it's always on and I'm trying to find out why?  I've just bought the car from someone. if anyone could give me some answers I would appreciate it. Oh and also, there's like this sound from my engine and doesn't sound like a knocking noise but it's more like maybe he was running the car w/o oil.  if anyone could help me thank you very much

It would help to know what year and model you're talking about.  However, if it's an early A2 (particularly a Golf or Jetta between 85 and 92), the OXS light is tripped my a sender that's connected to the odometer and automatically triggers the light every 60k (IIRC, I'm not sure of the exact mileage).  There's a reset switch in the instrument cluster somewhere; for more info, you should probably buy a copy of the Bentley Manual.  It's quite informative, has decent diagrams, and is a great reference even if you don't always do your own work.

As far as engine noise, I assume you checked the oil first.  If the oil level is good, make sure the oil is appropriate and you're using a genuine Mann filter.  If you need to buy a filter or a case of filters, I prefer www.germanautoparts.com but parts4vws.com is closer to you and would probably be more efficient.
