Yes, there is such a breed as a Red Nosed Pit Bull. You can read about it in the ASPCA Dog Book you can find online at Petsmart.com. They let you look at pages for free. It depends where you live in Missouri what you need license wise. I just adopted Trevor from the county pound. He is part lab and part pit. All I needed was the dog license (rabies shot tag) in my county, which the pound vet gave me as it was included in the adoption fee. Check with your local Animal Control/Animal Adoption Center in your county/city (Check the Blue Pages of your phone book under county/city listings) and give them a call. They'll let you know what you need.

American Pit Bull Terriers are a breed. I have a 80lb., one-year old Purple Ribbon American Pit Bull Terrier who happens to have a red nose. The UKC(United Kennel Club) doesn't recognize his red nose on his registration certificate. If anyone is still not a believer they can call the UKC at (269) 343-9020EST. for confirmation. And to anyone who overpaid for a Pit Bull because of it's red nose, you got jipped!

I am not sure WHY there are red nosed, blue nosed, and black nosed. I guess it is just genetic. I have 4 blue nosed, 2 red nosed, and 8 black nosed, all whom have went through a personal protection course. Pits are great dogs. They are just misunderstood by our society.

Yes, there is such a thing as a red nose Pitt.  I have a Texas Red Nosed Pitt Bull.  Be thankful you don't live in Pawtucket, RI
All Pitt bulls are banned from Pawtucket unless they are grandfathered in, and then you have to have them castrated, (males) or fixed, (females)
I am about to do this to my 2 year old male Pitt.  Law just pasted 1/1/04
And to add to yo Mama lil brother's comment this is from a vet

You are all stupid.   American Pit Bull Terrier is the breed name.   Red nose is the phrase for what color nose it has.  It does not mean it is a different breed.   Old Family Rednose is the purest strain of Rednose dogs.   It consists of Wallace, Hemphill, Sorona, Creeds, and other well known bloodlines.   Hemphill started breeding this pure strain back in 1927.  Any known breeders of the strain, I am not aware of.     The OFRN strain consists of Copper colored nose, copper colored toenails, copper colored eyes, and copper colored hair.  A PURE OFRN dog should not have ANY white on his hair.  Should be ALL copper colored.  OFRN bred dog can,  but Pure dogs shouldnt.

It makes me sick knowing most of you breed, and you dont know **** about the PUREST strain of bulldogs this breed is known for.   It is just a strain of dogs, being all red.   There is NOT 16 types of American Pit Bull Terriers.   There is simply, rednose, blacknose, and bluenose.   And all blue is, is a dilute of black.  Meaning it is pretty much a faded black.  Just like fawn is a dilute of red.

You people need to learn.

I have heard of red nosed pits a lot and seen them advertised for a higher price than a pit would sell for in my area and I don't think they are a better dog or a more expensive one either I think it is just another type of pit.People don't understand how many different types of pits there are.I have an Am. Staff. Terrier,7 yrs. old and he has never turned on me or my family but he is very protective of us though. He will bite if provoked.I keep him contained well.I have a fenced in yard and warn people of him.Anyone should use caution around any dog though.People say that pits should be banned, that makes me mad. It's the owners that make the dog what he is!My dog is very sweet and loves kids, he know who he can and cannot trust. They are very wise dogs and I am content having one around. If something happens to him I will be getting another one.Now tell me,would you walk up to a Doberman Pincher or a Rotweiller. and not be nervous? People need to realize that it is not a pits instinct to attack! They are trained!Just like any other dog!

This is not what I was looking for, but quite amusing to say the least.

http://www.ukcdogs.com/breeds/terriers/americanpitbullterrier.std.shtml

Since the breed has been crossed-bred with some many different bulldogs and terriers of course it has so many colors and features. If you read the ukc standards, pretty much any color, height, build, etc, etc can be qualified as an American Pitbull Terrier. Basically the different colors and characteristics are just options for what appeals to you(IMO). Breeders are the only ones making up descriptive names to attract its cleintele.(IMO)

Please don't add to the already out of control homeless and abused pit bull situation by breeding dogs for the sake of breeding. Breeding should be undertaken with pedigreed dogs and only after many critical health tests, checks etc. Please consider the dogs that are already homeless and abused before allowing dogs to breed and add to it.

There are a breed of red nose pits called Old family Rednose. Note really a breed but a pure strain of the American pitbull terrier. I have three and my Grandpa was Ron Sitzes which also bred some of the best Old Family rednose ever. He also was friends with Jake Wilder and both kept this special strain of beautiful pits alive.

it is so obvious that most of the people here should not own pits...there is only ONE, i repeat ONE breed called the american pit bull terrier.(unless of course you count amstaffs which can be duel registered)

red nosed, blue nosed, etc are OnlY color and LINE variation.. a red nosed pit is the same as any other pit to be honest.. the true red nosed pits is a bloodline called Old Family Reds.. they were the ORIGINAL red nosed pit. they are an IRISH bloodline, if the dog is not an OFR it just simply has a red nose..  it is sad that most people here don't know the difference between the words breed, bloodline, and color variation. the person mentioning the hemphill dogs, is almost correct.. bob hemphill and dan McCoy helped keep the old family red dogs from disappearing.. they did not create them however..  as i said the old family reds are from Ireland, NOT SPAIN!!

and the staffy bull is one of the dogs believed to be involved in creating the pit, along with other old bulldog type dogs and the english white terrier which is now extinct.. also the staffy is NOT simply a show dog, many dog fighters in europe still use this dog right along side of the pit, in dog fighting matches.. according to many, a game bred staffy is the only dog just as game as a pit.. though most in the U.S. are just simply show dogs.

How can there be so many people with little or wrong information in one place. NO there is no such thing as a red nose breed. There are only American Pit Bull Terriers, that is a breed and shortened to Pit Bull. There is actually no breed I know of that is called a pittbull. There is some one actually saying they have a rednose/gator Pit Bull. What exactly does that mean. Half its nose is red and half is gator....lol

Some are good with small animals some are not. It depends on the individual dog. Some will be good with your cat but not strange cats. Some will chase and kill them. Some will be scared of them.

There are regulations in place in the state of Missouri concerning all "Pit Bull" and other so-named mixed breeds.  There are many individual city and county regulations ranging from none listed, to specially licensed to absolutly NO tolerance.  It is important to check your city or county laws and to abide thereafter.  We have too many issues concerning this breed today, to allow the media, and non-supporters to use the fact that we "just didn't know" as more ammunition!

Written by Richard F. Stratton
* Appeared in the January-February, 1975 issue of Bloodlines Journal.
First, an overview. No one really knows when these dogs first came to this country, but the great breeder William J. Lightner once told me that his grandfather raised them before the Civil War. It is quite possible that they were even here during the Revolutionary War. In any case, it is clear that dogs of this breed came from various parts of Europe, specifically Spain and Sicily. But little is known about these earliest importations, because nothing was written about them. (Books and periodicals containing information about dogs were rare in those days.) Their existence can be inferred from artwork, however. The most famous importations were from Ireland, and were generally made by the Irish themselves after they emigrated to this country.(The bulk of the Irish pit dog importations coincides or closely follows the great Irish migration that resulted from the famous potato famine.) Most of the Irish dogs were small and very closely inbred, but their gameness was proverbial-especially that of the group of strains that was known as the Old Family. The following article I wrote on the Old Family Reds (just one segment of the Old Family bloodlines) is reprinted from Bloodlines Journal.

THE STORY OF THE OLD FAMILY REDS.
It has always seemed to me that the good old Pit Bull is a breed that is at once primitive and futuristic. He looks no more out of place in the ancient landscapes of 16th century paintings than he does in the ultra-modern setting. It is beyond my capabilities to imagine an end to him, for every generation seems to supply a nucleus of hard core devotees completely committed to the breed. In any case, you can look into the murky past, and you will find it difficult to discern a beginning place for the breed, and, fortunately, the future seems to threaten no demise either.
Ours is a breed that has a definite mystique. Part of it, no doubt, stems from the fact that it is an old breed and deeply steeped in tradition. Old strains are a particularly fascinating part of this tradition, and the Old Family Red Nose is one of the better-known old strains.

The appearance of the red-nosed dogs always attracts attention, but it takes a little getting used to for some people to consider them truly beautiful. However, no one denies that they radiate "class." Characteristically, a dog of the red-nosed strain has a copper-red nose, red lips, red toe nails, and red or amber eyes. Some think the strain was bred for looks. Others consider any dog that just happens to have a red nose to be pure Old Family Red Nose. It is hoped that the following will dispel such notions.

About the middle of the last century there was a family of pit dogs in Ireland bred and fought chiefly in the counties of Cork and Kerry that were known as the "Old Family." In those days, pedigrees were privately kept and jealously guarded. Purity of the strains was emphasized to the extent that breeders hardly recognized another strain as being the same breed. For that reason all the strains were closely inbred. And whenever you have a closed genetic pool of that type, you are likely to have a slide toward the recessive traits, because the dominants, once discarded, are never recaptured. Since red is recessive to all colors but white, the "Old Family" eventually became the "Old Family Reds." When the dogs began coming to America, many were already beginning to show the red nose.

The "Old Family" dogs found their way to America mainly via immigrants. For example, Jim Corcoran came to this country to fight the world heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan, and stayed to become a Boston policeman. He sent for dogs from his parents back in Ireland, and his importations and expertise as a great breeder have earned him a prominent place in American (Pit) Bull Terrier history. Many other Irish immigrants also sent back to their families to request for dogs, and the "Old Family" and related strains became firmly established in the United States.

At this point, there are several factors that are somewhat confusing to a student of the breed. For one thing, the term "family dogs" was used in two ways: It could mean a strain of dogs that was a family unto itself that was kept by a number of unrelated people in Ireland, or it could refer to a strain of dogs that was kept and preserved through the years by a family group. However, the old Family Reds seem to be of the first category. Another point that arises is that with all these importations from Ireland (and there were importations from other countries, too-including Spain), where do we get off calling our breed the American Bull Terrier! Well. ..that's a point! The breed does not really belong to anyone country or even anyone era! However, I don't believe many people are in favor of changing the name of the breed even though it is not strictly an American breed. For that matter, it is not really a Bull Terrier, either! But the name American (Pit) Bull Terrier has become part of that tradition we were talking about, and I think most of us prefer to keep it as a formal name for the breed.

Back to the Old Family Reds. The first big splash made by the red noses was back around 1900 when the great breeder William J. Lightner, utilizing Old Family Red bloodlines, came up with some red-nosed dogs that really made a name for themsel ves. Now Lightner once told me that he did not breed for that red-nosed coloration. In fact, he did not even like it and he only put up with it because the individual dogs were of such high quality. Eventually Lightner gave up the red-nosed strain when he moved from Louisiana to Colorado, where he came up with a new strain that consisted of small dark-colored dogs with black noses. He had given up on the other strain because they were running too big for his taste and because he didn't like the red noses.

At this point in our story we come upon a comical, but highly-respected, figure in the personage of Dan McCoy. I have heard old-time dog men from all over the country talk about this man. Apparently, he was an itinerant fry cook and not much of a success in life judged by normal standards, but he didn't care about that. What he did care about were Pit Bulldogs, and he had a wealth of knowledge about the breed. His uncanny ability to make breedings that "clicked" made him a respected breeding consultant and a most welcome guest at any dog man's house-even if he had just dropped off a freight train!

Always with his ear to the ground regarding anything that involved APBT's, McCoy got wind of the fact that an old Frenchman in Louisiana by the name of Bourgeous had preserved the old Lightner red-nosed strain. So he and Bob Hemphill went to that area, and with the aid of Gaboon Trahan of Lafayette, they secured what was left of the dogs. McCoy took his share to the Panhandle of Texas and placed them with his associates L. C. Owens, Arthur Harvey and Buck Moon. He then played a principal role in directing the breedings that were made by these fanciers. And from this enclave came such celebrated dogs as Harvey's Red Devil and Owens (Fergusons) Centipede. Hemphill eventually kept only dogs of the red-nosed strain. According to Hemphill, it was McCoy who first started using the term "Old Family Red Nose" for the strain.

Another breeder who was almost synonymous with the red-nosed strain was Bob Wallace. However, Bob's basic bloodline was not pure Old Family Red Nose. But in the late 40's he was looking for the red-nosed strain in order to make an "outcross." (Bob was a scrupulously careful breeder who planned his breedings years in advance.) Unfortunately, he found that the strain was nearly gone, most of it having been ruined by careless breedings. He managed to obtain seven pure red-noses of high quality whose pedigrees he could authenticate. The strain was subsequently saved for posterity and in the 1950's became the fashionable strain in Pit Bull circles. In fact, it was Bob Wallace himself who wrote an article in 1953 called "There Is No Magic in Red Noses" in which he tried to put a damper on the overly enthusiastic claims being made by some of the admirers of the strain. No more fervent admirer of the Old Family Reds ever lived than Wallace, but he obviously felt that the strain could stand on its own merits.

Many stains have been crossed with the Old Family Reds at some time in their existence. Consequently, nearly any strain will occasionally throw a red-nosed pup. To many fanciers, these red-nosed individuals are Old Family Red Noses even though the great preponderance of their blood is that of other strains. Sometimes such individuals will fail to measure up and thereby reflect undeserved discredit on the rcd-nosed strain. However, as Wallace said, the red noses should not be considered invincible either. They produce their share of bad ones as well as good ones-just as all strains do.

As a strain, the Old Family Red Nose has several things going for it. First, it is renowned for its gameness. Second, some of the most reputable breeders in all Pit Bull history have contributed to the preservation and development of the strain. People like Lightner, McClintock. Menefee and Wallace, to mention just a few. Finally, as McNolty said in his 30-30 Journal (1967) "Regardless of one's historical perspective, these old amber-eyed, red-nosed, red-toe-nailed, red-coated dogs represent some of the most significant pit bull history and tradition that stands on four legs today."

I have just finished reading all of these posts. I am disgusted. Most of you haven't a clue as to what the real pit bull is or should be. Red nose pits are not a breed, but a color type. Turtle Buster is not a breed but a bloodline. I have 3 pits. All 3 have red noses, however, this does not make them any different than any other pit bull, whether it be blue, brindle, or spotted. Mad Man Kennels- I love that article and read it regularly. Unfortunately, most of the people on here reading it will not be able to comprehend what it is saying.  Jesus- You're right. Most of the people on here should not own a pit bull much less be trying to breed them. Corey Nichols- I find it hard to believe that you own a dog from Floyd Boudreaux that is white and tan, as his dogs are predominately black. It is possible that you have a dog with some Boudreaux blood way back, but I doubt it. As far as the question about the pit getting along with your cat, some do and some don't. All my dogs get along with our house cats, but if it were one they didn't know, it would be dead. Some pits have a high prey drive and some don't. If you are bringing home a pit bull puppy and introduce it to your cat, I don't see any reason that they would not get along. As far as the person asking if you can tell bloodlines by looking at a dog- I don't believe this is possible unless you've been around the dogs a long time. I had a person stop me and tell me I had a Colby pit. The reason he knew was because of his ears. That is crazy! Besides all pit bulls can be traced back to a Colby dog. The ADBA registry was the home of the Colby dogs in the begining. He was a mainstay in that registry when they first started it. You people need to do a little research before you own or even attempt to breed these dogs. You are the main reason the pit bull is banned in many parts of the country. Irresponsible breeding practices and lack of knowledge make for a very bad mix.

Red Nose are just a color and only qualified people should breed them everyone else should get their dogs fixed.  Breed them for conformation and temperament, not for gamienesss.  To breeders of "game bred dogs" quit breeding these dogs they look sick and under fed.

I do not understand why so many people who do absoloutly no research into a bread as diverse as the pit bull, besides what they pick up from backyard conversations. A pit can be what ever you want it to be; a watch dog, a hearding dog, a pulling dog a fighting dog, a family dog, or all of the above. I have raised two and just recieved my third, ( American Pit Bull terrior), the only breed of pit. One, the oldest, a Black Nosed, Red Brendal Marked on a white coat, the next completely white, and the third a blue brendal, all different like all of their sibling, none alike. All colors under the moon, but still, all american pits, the breed.

They are great with kids as long as you keep them active and socialize them with all types of people and animals early or they may be aggressive. My Red Nose is my most precious and loyal dog. Don't hate the breed hate the deed. The dog is the product of the master. If you love them and treat them with respect you will get love and respect back.

And from what I've been told, she comes from the old family red bloodline. After reading Madmans post I can positively say that she is. She has the copper red toenails, lips eyelids...a beautiful dog. I wish u could post pictures here!

if a rabbit with red eyes a albino is why couldn't be a pit bull with a red pigment nose be a red-nose pit bull?????????? the answer is easy a pit bull is an American Stafford without a pedigree witch in some country as an example Holland a thing you must have am-staff without a pedigree are pit-bulls and illegal in Holland if you enter Holland with a pit bull then the law says he must be killed no questions asked.why i don't understand. and i even don't agree with that law. answer to your question: any am-staff without a pedigree is a pit bull a breed that is not on the requested breeds of the world. my answer about the breed pit bull red-nose is that i love them there so special. one more thing all am-staff that do not qualify to breedstanderds ( that means a nose thats not fully black like red-nose or pink spots in it,or the height of the dog is wrong, his nails are black instead of white, the color of his hair has more than 60% white in it,the eyes aren't black but blue like the blue nose pit bull with his gray hair or the red-nose with green eyes..... It doesn't matter they are breedstanderd and get the name pit bull. but whats kind of weird is that a blue or red-nose more expansive is because of there looks.even we now these dog have no pedigree and never get one.

you idiots there is ONE BREED of PIT BULL, THE AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER which comes in a variety of colors. these colors are not different types or breeds. there is only one. many look different depending on what the breeder emphasizes on in his or her breeding program for example, large heads, big bones, chest, weight, etc. But they are all the same breed of dog whether it is registered with the ADBA or the UKC. The AKC does not recognize APBT's as a breed by that name but calls them by a different name THE AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER which is the same as a pit just by a different name because the AKC doesn't like the name pit bull. ACT LIKE YALL KNOW. go read a book before you go calling yourselves dog breeders and whatever. you are just gonna screw up the dogs.

the old family red is a bloodline of the apbt. if bred right, they can be red, red brindle, or chocolate. these dogs do what you breed them to do. i have the purest old family reds available. they are bred for weight pulling catching hogs and to show. they are also the most game of the old family reds. they like to fight but there size slows them down. if you breed 2 blacknosed dogs and get a red nosed pup then your dogs are not pure bred. you will pay more for a thorough bred ofr apbt because they are rare and hard to find. my dogs will not be sold for less than $800 because they are worth every penny. my dogs are hemphill wilder & sorona. the grandfather to 2 are camelot's the duke on top and bottom. for those of you who don't know the duke was a famous apbt that sold for $16,000 at 9 1/2 years old.

A "red nose" on a pitbull is simply a recessive trait. U can find a "red nose" on any type of pitbull. Notice there is less "red nose" pitbulls than black nose. The same way humans have dominant and recessive traits, is the same way dogs do. Furthermore, middle toe being bigger than the big toe on humans is a recessive trait while the big toe being bigger than the little toe is dominant. Moreover, brown hair vs. red hair on humans, brown is dominant while red is recessive.

Pits are one of the few k-9's that have a variety of different brand  names.  pit bull is the breed and red-nosed, blue, ect., are the names put before pit bull to tell the difference between the different looks and blood lines.

RON SITZE AND JACOB WILDER AND BOB HEMPHILL ARE DEAD AND TWO HAVE BEEN LONGER THAN MOST OF YOU HAVE BEEN ALIVE,ORFN ARE A STAIN WITHIN THE BREED,JUST ABOUT EVERY LINE OR STRAIN IF YOU WILL,CAN OR HAS THROWN RED NOSE DOGS BUT THE OFRN STRAIN IS ALL REDNOSE DOGS SO IF YOU BREED TWO OFRN TOGETHER YOU WILL ONLY GET REDNOSE REDS AND MOST OF THE TIME YOU WILL ONLY GET REDNOSE REDS ON AN OUTCROSS.YOU WILL PAY MORE FOR REAL OFRN BLOOD BECAUSE IT IS RARE AND IT WAS THE GAMEST BLOOD-LINE OF PITDOGS FOR YEARS SO YES IF YOU PAY  MORE FOR A PUP JUST BECAUSE IT HAS A REDNOSE YOU GOT TOOK BUT IF YOU SEEK OUT A TIGHT BREED OFRN YOU WILL PAY MORE FOR WHAT YOU GET,JUST AS YOU WOULD IF YOU BOUGHT A PUP OFF A CHAMP. OR GRAND CHAMP. SO I SHORT JUST BECAUSE A DOGS NOSE IS RED DOES NOT MAKE IT A OFRN ONLY THE PEDIGREE CAN PROVE THE LINAGE OF THE EVER SO RARE EVER SO GAME OLD RED DOG!SOME OF YOU WOULD BENIFIT FROM SOME READING ON STRAINS AND LINES OF THE APBT SO YOU CAN BETER UNDERSTAND THE TRAITS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THE DOG YOU ARE BUYING OR TALKING ABOUT(TRAITS LIKE MOUTH GAME WIND WREASTLING)SOME LINES BRING CERTAIN TRAITS OUT IN A DOG HENCE THE REASON FOR CROSSING LINES TO IMPROVE ON LESSER TRAITS YOU MAY HAVE IN YOUR DOG!

I have a question.  My neighbor was followed home by a dog, which I have taken in.  She looks like a cross between a pitt bull and something else, not sure.  She is around 8 months, 60 lbs.  She is white with pink undertones.  Her nose is black and pink.  She has small brown spots on her back.  Her left ear is completely brown and the right one is spotted brown.  She has brown circles around her eyes.  She does not have the square shoulders that some pitts have and I just wondering what she may be mixed with?

After reading thru all these posts carefully, I have come to a conclusion that about 99.5% of people are ignorant when it come to the American PIT Bull Terrier.
As for most of you all it is PIT, no PITT.

Rednosed is a color of the breed, not a breed itself. The breed is the American Pit Bull Terrier, Not just Pit, or Pit Bull, OR PITT as most of you all called it.

As for the girl (Jmoney) who said that a Pit Bull is not a show dog, SINCE WHEN?????
My dogs are registered with the AKC (Am Staff) or the UKC or ADBA.
I show most of them and weight pull all of them. They've been showing APBT since the early 1900s. Where in the world did you get your information?
I can show you plenty of Gr. Ch and Ch REDNOSED Pit Bulls, and thousands of others that are not rednosed. Get your facts straight.

Please if any of you goofs attempt to buy a dog, please spay or neuter. We don't anymore BYB bred dogs running around, it is detrimental to this breed that we leave it up to the professionals. If you would spend more time researching BSL and educating yourselves on the breed you would know a lot more about the breed itself and what all the bloodlines, and the strains are. For example, Goto your local library and get Richard Stratton's book, the American Pit Bull Terrier, or Dianne Jessup, The Working American Pit Bull Terrier. Then when you feel like you have enough knowledge of this wonderful and beautiful breed, contact a reputable breeder that does health testing and titles their dogs in either conformation, weight pull, agility, obedience, or simply just works their dogs, not slaps them in cages in the back yard or on chains and never touches them unless they are breeding them and ready to make some money.

The term "red nose" is not a breed, it's just the color of the dog's nose. The American Pit Bull Terrier is the name of the breed, having a red nose doesn't make it a seperate breed. There are red nose pits, blue nose pits and the most common black nose pits. They are all the same breed just bred with different blood lines.

hell yes there is red nosed pits!!! any of u fools who say there is not then u have not seen my b!tch Venus.

the red nose is just a feature that is past down from one generation to the next and is more likely to occur (in the next litter) if both the males and females blood line have tended to bare this feature and so forth.

this kind of breeding is done with out actually changing or altering the breed. it is just selective breeding with in the breed to get results u would desire.
and now to break it down for all of u who still do not understand, u selectively choose dogs with red noses and red noses in their blood line for breeding in order to get u desired red nose.
THEY ARE STILL AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIERS!
THEY JUST HAVE A FEATURE THAT U FIND TO BE MORE DESIRABLE.
SO THERE FOR THERE IS RED NOSE PIT BULLS BUT THEY ARE NO DIF FROM BLUE NOSE PITS OUT SIDE OF THE PHYSICAL REALM. SAME BREED JUST DIFFERENT BLOOD LINE, A BLOOD LINE WITH PREFERRED COLOR OF NOSE.
and yes red nose pits do tend to be fawn, white, or even a little brown. but they are still American pit bull terriers.
and yes there is also American staffshire terriers with red noses, black noses, and blue noses.

just went to see some pitt bulls this morning and reading about the breed on this forum.

Here in Thailand pitt bull is fashion and there are many everywhere.

Almost got one, only 1 puppy left, female, but she had Undershot Bite (Prognathism, or an underbite is common and expected in brachycephalic breeds (Boxers, Bulldogs, etc...), where the lower jaw protrudes out past the upper jaw. It should be noted, however, that as common as this condition is, in a breed where the jaws are not formed to accomodate this condition, problems can arise resulting in needed corrective surgery) so i decided not to go for it.

Very cheap to buy pitt bulls here, from 60 to 200 dollars maximum.. and nice ones..

I live in B.C. More specificaly Maple Ridge and there are a lot of pittbull owners here. I myself own a rednose (at least Im 75% sure he's a rednose, he's a brindle and does have a red nose but I rescued him from a Meth lab so I have my doubts after reading this page) This dog has been my best friend for many years now (about 5). I know this dog understands that I saved his life, and theirfor would give it back to me if the situation called for it. Now Im not saying he's vitious but Being a pitt I do watch him closer than my others.(I have many other dogs including my recent decease AIR BUD. Ya the one from the movie.) I now own a bulldog staff cross aswell. I am getting f*&^%$# pist with the generalization of all tuff (Bullbreads) being refered to as PITTBULLS. If the dog has a big muscular head its a pittbull, if it attacked someone, damn it must hove been a pittbull, oh that guy has tatoos and his dog is wearing a studded collar, IT HAS TO BE A PITTBULL. LOOK the owners make the dog  most are responsible, and understand
the risk. ya some are idiots and train their dogs improperly but for the rest of us espetially here in BC are facing the risk of loosing our dogs mearly for the way they are perseaved. I have personally had the SPCA (Stupid People Catching Animals) on my A$% simply because my dog was a (Vicious) pittbull. An elderly man thought it DANGEROUS for me to be walking my dog ON LEASH in a provintial park because he was a pitt. His dog was off leash and attacked my dog from behind, my rednose is only around 45pounds so I lifted him above my head. Of corse mine started barking to but the man had no control of his dog and seen as I had the pitt I was the bad guy. Now I had to prove my dog fit to live in sociaty or they would put him down. His uneducation almost lead to a member of my family being Executed. I wish these dogs were more understood and defind to the public to help stop these aligations. And to the F$%# Heads who train there dogs to be agressive YOU should be the one to get sh^% kicked not the dog. Your dog loves you and will die for U if Necessary, NOT FOR FUN! Catch a brain.

Pitt bulls are beautiful, lovable, adorable, loving, protective, and really good with kids. My pitt bull is a year and a half old, and I have a sixth month at home, and he makes her laugh by licking on her toes. It is the cutest thing ever. So anybody thinking about getting a pitt bull with kids, go ahead and get the doggie. They are very good with kids. But make sure you get a puppy and not an adult dog. Sometimes, the dog has had more than one owner. My pitt bull, Hennessey, had three owners, and I got him at three months. He had already been abused and abandoned, so luckily I got him at a young enough age to treat him good and have a good dog. So treat em good, they treat you good. Hennessey acts like a baby, always has to be by his mama. And Hennessey is a red nose pitt bull. There are some places where they have to be licensed, and there are some places where they are banned, so just check the community center and ask, they will tell you right away. Hoped I helped you out

I have a 3 year old male red nose purple ribbon on both sides and I am told he has hemphill,Wallace and old family that means when I registered him with UKC I got a geneolgy of 23 generations on both sides and he is absolutely stunning 23 inches at the shoulders and about 68 pounds the parents come from very well established yards. But the main thing is he is a well bred dog with great temperament I always say he is smarter than me because I don't always give him credit for as smart as he is . My point is this it does not matter so much what kind of pit you have what matters most of all is knowledgeable breeders and people that live with them I say live with them  because I do not believe you ever really own a pit if you think that way then you don't deserve to have one. This breed is by far and away the best all around breed out there.
At one time there was a pit by the name of Band dog Dread sch111 owned by Diane Jessup from Seattle WA this pit held more titles than any other dog in the world!! he even held a title for herding Ducks! yes I said Ducks. Thats what this breed is all about first foremost and always.KEEP THE FAITH

American Pit Bull Terrier is a breed recognized by the ADBA. American Staffordshire Terriers are recognized by the UKC, in which the breed standard states that a red or "Dudley" nose is considered a fault.
Red/blue nose is a color, not a special strain, or a different breed. It's a color like you are-whatever you are. Black, white, red, brown, it's just a color, it doesn't make them special or rare. Actually thousands of Pits (yes, it's spelled P-i-t, not P-i-t-t) are euthanized everyday due to overpopulation. And everyone of you breeding your dogs is only HURTING the breed, so please do us responsible owners a favor-leave breeding to the professionals that health and temperament test their dogs. Just because you have a good looking dog (short and wides are not breed standard!) doesn't mean you should unleash 10+ puppies into the world.

www.google.com search for yourself.  The breed is called American Pit bull terrior (APBT).    Red nose pits are not a breed, but a color type.  There is only 1 pit bull and its the APBT.

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) - Recognized by the ADBA and UKC

The American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff or AST) - Recognized by the AKC

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT) - Recognized by the AKC and UKC.

People are really stupid...

There is so much misinformation here. Yes there are red nose pit bulls, no there is not a red nose breed of pit bull. It is Pit with one T, at least it is on my papers, no where does it say Pitt or Pitt Bull, only American Pit Bull Terrier. red nose pit isn't a breed of pit anymore then a yellow lab is a different breed then a black lab, they are both equally labs of the same breed with different color. There is a wide varience in color of the breed, including the different nose colors and many different coat colors and combinations. Pit Bull is short for American Pit Bull Terrier and it also reffers to a breed type which includes the APBT, the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Staffordshire Terrier is required to have a dark colored nose and red nose is considered a major fault, a red nose AST is rare to find because the gene has almost been eleminated, although it is recessive and has the possibility to appear it is very unlikely just like producing a red nose colby APBT is very unlikely because the recessive genes have been almost completly eliminated from the Colby bloodline. I would hope more people would do research themselves before giving out answers. No Pit Bulls orginated in Spain no matter what their nose color, they came from Europe to America and have been bred here under the official name of American Pit Bull Terrier and trace back to English/Irish imports. There is no line, type or breed of pit known as red, red nose, or american. Nose colors is only a color and all Pit Bulls are American Pit Bull Terriers (unless of course you are using it in refference of the AST or SBT). red nose Pit Bulls are recognized by the UKC and there are a lot of UKC red nose Pits.  pitt_lover69 didn't even take time to read some of the other post. There isn't a breed of red nose pit bull, there are red nose American Pit Bull Terriers. There are also pink nose Pit Bulls. I know very much what I'm talking about, I have more then a clue although I don't know everything I have researched the breed over and over again, researched bloodlines, and my dogs pedigrees and try to learn as much as I can. There are pink nose dogs just like there are red nose dog and they are different nose color. Pink nose dogs are dogs who's nose is void of pigment and pink (skin color), they lack any pigmentation, just as well as butterfly noses have a pink nose with SOME pigment of either red, blue or black. Albinos have pink noses and many red recessive dilutes have pink noses and more Pits have butterfly noses. I have a few black nose dogs, 1 who actually isn't a true bold dark black but appears to have some tan tint to his nose, but he also a descendent of mainly OFRN blood and doesn't have the stong dominant black genes in complete dominance. I also have a few red nose dogs, a pink nose dog, a butterfly nose with red pigment spots and a one with black pigment spots, I have a puppy who also looks like he is going to be a butterfly red nose.

If anyone would like picture examples I can provide them to better understand and have a visual of the nose colors

Anyone interested in learning actual facts about pit bulls (American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers)- please go to these websites - www.pbrc.net and www.badrap.org.  Please don't breed your dogs - I volunteer in an animal shelter, and the number one breed there are pit bulls.  They usually take a long time to be adopted out due to their bad reputation, and who knows how many get put down (euthanised, killed).  Please don't add to the overpopulation!!!!!!!  Thanks to all the truly responsible pit bull guardians who are letting society see what a great dog they are.  And I have a red-nosed pit bull I adopted from the animal shelter, her red nose makes her no better than any other pit bull, it's just one of her characteristics.

i have a red nose pitt. i bottle fed her from 2 and a half weeks old because her mom had 15 pups. one died, and mom had a difficult time trying to nurse all, so i paid my cousin $150.00, and took her home. i am so glad i did. my cousin was transporting the mom, dad, and the rest of the pups to a new house in her pickup. someone stole her truck, with all the dogs in the canopied back. all, including the truck, never too be seen again. i love my dog, she is almost two now, and i would never give her up. she is gentle, kind, loving, and yet very protective. when i need her to be. a few weeks ago, in the parking lot of a large grocery store, a man who had fallen to the ground and gotten up was coming toward me. he was obviously drunk, or something else, or both, but he got up and came at me. i had my dog out on her harness and she started growling, the closer he came, the louder she got. i yelled loudly for him to stay back, but he did not listen. my dog became agressive as he neared. he lunged at me and she went balistic. he fell to the ground and by the time he could get up, i was around the corrner of the store and thought i was safe, one minute passed, and i was leaned upside the building when from around the corner this man came and lunged at me again. it was all i could do to hold her. i moved to the front of the store and yelled "stay back, stay back" as loudly as i could so anyone around could hear. it was 11:pm and rather deserted, but two people did come out of the store, they watched as i continued to yell stay back. the man finally threw his arms into the air as if someone had a gun on him. he stumbled backward and off he went. my point is, if she had not been with me, and somewhat self trained in protection, i may not be here to tell this storey about a rednose pitt, who saved my life. i love her.

The short hand name is "PIT" with one "T" not 2.

they are a LINE of dogs within a breed like stated several time above.

Quit breeding your dogs.

Spay them

Spay youself so that you unfoundered ignorance does not continue.

In Response to the post that says the UKC does not register the red nose pit bull as red nose on their papers. YOU ARE WRONG! I own a kennel and have bred pits for many years. I specialize in the red nose American Pit Bull Terrier. I have 3 dogs registered with the UKC right now. On their papers are: Chocolate Red Nose, Red Red Nose, and another Red Red Nose. THEY DO REGISTER THEIR NOSE COLOR. If you do not specify red nose or blue nose on the papers, the UKC assumes that the nose is black!

There has been much genetic testing done about color inheritance. over the past 15 yrs or so
You would find the Mammalian Genome Project studies have since 2000 each year added to the knowledge of how genes and their alleles contribute to the formation of chromosomes to the total of 78 in a  dog.

In 1989 Malcolm B Willis wrote The Genetics of the Dog and he said, "it is useless asking for black noses on brown dogs"--the Genome project has proven this,as

any brown dogs can be of two main genetic types and there are three ways a dog can be light in pigmentation via the aberration of genes for colors at special loci

One of these makes the Irish Setter and black-nosed deep colored Dachshund the color of mahogany.

its the A or a color gene depending on whether its dominant or recessive.
The B or B makes red or liver colour

The two parent bs can match up and give lots of shades of dilute, and there is a lot of indication your original red noses came from inbreeding and this gene functioning more and more with no input of another gene like the A which controls the color black

A dog can also be dilute(light coloring) due to the actions  of the D or d gene.

That one actually turns a liver dog when paired into dilute and the grey Weimaraner was bred from this genetic mapping, fluked then kept secretly going for generations.

Cool hey??
Refs well search engine for the geneticists -
Schmutz at her Skyways website and also S E Bowling and try the mammalian Genome project.Cheers

I don't own APBTs I own Poodles I hate the name Pit bull its gotten many of my best friends into trouble and Chauncey Bennett in 1898 should have left it in the bracket then forgotten to write it in his lists of Coons and so forth registry records,I feel, ABT would do me fine!!.

I don't support BYB of any breed--they pump out crap and too many dogs in all designer breeds and you can't tell the public its not good.

The American Canine Foundation is a website to visit
They state, Glen Bu ,there they have evidence the backyard bred APBTs are the attackers, the registered dogs seem to be well owned and bred--

don't breed indiscriminately when your country has about 1 in every 9 dogs already of the crosses and pures, 4.8 million of your breed is one hell of a total--

you can't make a dint in the illegal dog fighting by police etc--who can??-and the world is blazing with spot fires of Breed Specific Legislation against the APBT due to emotional and irrational politicians and welfare Animal Rightists,

So do the best for your breed, only breed the very best of the registered, tested and TT dogs and only when you need to keep the breed going--stop moneymaking from them they deserve to be preserved not exploited.

I live where the states have just joined over 5 years into the banning and they will seize and murder now, the "pit bull" and like all the Nazis, they cannot define what they mean

but do it with media support in the name of "making us safe from vicious dogs bred for fighting"

If they knew it, the first time I met Buster he grinned and offered me a chew of his pigs ear and rolled over head on my lap for a belly rub
You have to love a wide grinning boofer  like that, and he wont get killed-- no way!Hug the dogs .Cheers

hi i have 5 red nosed Pitt bulls I've bred them for 15 years they are great with kids and any thing else it just depends on how you train them they can be Gard dogs, family pets, and any thing you want them to be just as long as you care for them. they all are great dogs and they're not just called red nosed because they got red noses its a different breed like Pomeranian,bull-mastiff,beagle,poodle,collies all kinds. believe me i know as long as I've bred dogs. also when i was little my parents bred red nosed bulldogs and they taught me all about them.so just believe me i know.

For all of you who are some what confused... "Pit Bull" is a breed that originated from the Staffordshire dogs in England. When registering your dog with any kennel you will be asked what color he/she is. There you are aloud to say red/red nose. They are bred for their coloring, it is a personal preference just like "brindle" or "blue". I just purchased a puppy from 2 ADBA/UKC red/red nose "pits" and none of the pups have red noses, it happens. If you would like to see a red/red nose "pit" please visit www.charityspricelesspitbulls.com
As far as having a license to have one this is not legit. However you may want to check on any Laws/County Ordinances against having specific breeds in your area.
Hopefully now you may have a better understanding of color vs. breed.
Thanks from a Breeder/Vet

Yes, there are Red Nose Pits. It is the type of a Pit. There is also such thing as a gator bloodline Pit. You can tell if your Pit is a gator bloodline by his paws. If he has webbed paws, he has a gator bloodline. I had a gator bloodline Pit before. All Pits love people, whether adult or child. I believe that the only time a Pit attacks a human being is that they were trained too, or in the circumstances of a child being attacked, the dog was provoked. The Pit I have now looks just like the one I had before, all black except for a white patch on his chest. I can't tell if his feet are webbed or not. But, I trust my dogs. Like everyone's been saying, it's how you train your dog.

Yes, There are such things as rednosed pitts.  While they are only a color variation in the breed, they are known as the more aggressive and more protective of all pittbull'sbesides the blue nosed pitt.  i have a rednosed Staffordshire Pittbull Terrier in my lap right now... She is full blooded and one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet.  That said, she knows who is not supposed to be around and who is supposed to be around, if provoked she will bite, or if i order her too.  Pitts are very loving dogs and are simply mistaken by our society.  It is all on the owner, if one trains the dog to attack anybody, she will, but if they are trained only to attack intruders (when the owner is not home) or only on command, they are not dangerous to own.  I live in texas and in some parts you are required to have a liscense, but many get around it by claiming that their dog is mixed even though they may have all the papers.

well acutally, there is no such thing as a rednose pitbull when your speaking breed. There is only 1 american pitbull terrier. That is the breed name. They come in all colors and nose colors. Red nose, black nose, blue nose, it's not a different breed and it means NOTHING..except a rednose and blue nose are not accepted in shows for a lot of registrys...but there is NOTHING differnt about the dogs..they are all the same just different colors. a true purebred american pitbull terrier should NOT EVER reach the size over 70 lbs, otherwise it is a mastiff bred mutt and you got screwed! The kennels who say they have big pits LIE, they are all bred w/mastiffs and the papers are hung, so you can't go by papers. i can register my grandma's cocker spaniels as american pitbull terriers as long as the registry gets there money.

whoever you are Sarah, you said you have a pink-nosed Am Pit Bull Terrier
the pink nose is a serious fault
the nose of Pit Bulls are red, blue, and black
NOT Pink
a pink nose on a Pit Bull is called a dudley nose
the pink nose is pretty much a red nose minus the color or pigment
i hope this helps
FOR EVERYBODY ELSE
there is an ADBA website you can go to that will show you all the colors of Am Pit Bull Terriers that are accepted like fawn, seal, black, brown, chocolates, light chocolates, reds, blues, brindles, and so on
it also shows you the dogs noses
you will also notice there are no white ones
Am Pit Bull Terriers are not supposed to be more than i think 90% white
TO YOU ALL ARE IDIOTS- THERE ARE RED-NOSED APBTs how could you say there wasnt
its the color of the dogs nose, thats all it is
just like there are black nosed and blue nosed
you shouldnt be rude to everybody just because you think you know everthing

I LOVE ALL OF YOU AND THE PIT BULLS YOU OWN TAKE CARE OF YOUR DOGS AND YOURSELVES

for coat and nose colors you can go to ABDA color chart in the Yahoo search engine and you will have to find the site it shows all the accepted coat and nose colors of the Am Pit Bull Terrier breed
there are chocolates, light chocolates, blues, brindles, reds, seal, blacks ...
you will also notice there are no all white dogs
they also discuss the merle pattern of the breed (which i have never seen myself)
there are no pink-nosed dogs
the pink nose is a red nose minus the red color or pigment
i hope this helps all of you in your search for answers
as far as the bloodlines go
i dont think people should be breeding unless they know what it is and where they came from
i helps to know the bloodlines because then you will know if youre getting a game-dog or not
i myself prefer the game dogs that ARE GOING TO BE DOG AGGRESSIVE than getting a PIT that isnt
to me if youre getting a PIT it should be dog aggressive because thats what they were bred to do for over 200 years
but at the same time you should be able to control your dogs

Pit Bulls that arent game are like greyhounds that wont run
like Labs that dont retrieve or dont like water
to me it doesnt make sense

Terriers as a whole should not be scary or shy away from anything

i could talk on this subject for hours but im gonna go i hope this helps everybody

We just bought a new pit her mama is red and dadddy is blue. This site is great because I have had a few people try to convince me that these are two blood lines that you can not mix. From what I understand these are just colors of the dogs and not blood lines right? She is very cute and is afraid of our Chihuahua. We want her to be a family dog so we do not allow anyone to hit her. Is it all in the way you raise the dog or is she naturally vicious because I can't see this little cutie trying to hurt our family.

This is the match up.    People I hope you know how pitbulls fight in all weight classes.  A 140lb Tosa  against a 65lb or 70lb pitbull. You would think the Bigger Tosa would be slow and not able to move  WRONG!!! That Big Tosa Moves like a 65lb or 70lb pitbull and he is just as AGILE.  The Tosa however is not always the VICTOR!!  People Pitbulls are gentle dogs loveable dogs, but before owning one Please know what you have.

what a bunch of bs lmao

the breed is  American Pit bull Terrier which comes in several colors including black, blue and red noses.

no, red noses are not nec "Irish" dogs..however, as stated in the OFRN history, they are descendants of the original Irish dogs.. and any STRAIN or BLOODLINE can produce a red nose dog .. if they carry that gene.

there is NO SUCH BREED AS A PITT, Pit, whatever. Pit bull is a genetic term for several breeds of dogs.

American Staffordshire Terrier is a direct descendant of the American Pit Bull Terrier

Red nose is NOT A BREED. ITS JUST A COLOR OF NOSE that is prominent in certain strains of dogs.

those that claim they breed "red nose" dogs are only breeding for the color .. shame on you for helping to ruin an peddle pups!

Note: on this site proper breed names/nicknames will be capitalized. Words that are typically used to describe a "type" of dog and not a specific breed will not be capitalized.)

American Bulldog (AB)--Typically larger than the Pit Bull, this is a breed that was created from bulldogs brought over to America from England early in the 1900's. Generally this breed is mostly white, with or without solid or brindle patches, and should have uncropped ears. Fanciers of this breed often claim this is the "orignal" bulldog. While it may very well be a close representation of the "breed that started it all", the AmBull is actually a relatively new breed, and should be considered a "recreation" of the APBT'svery close ancestor, the Bulldog. For more information on the America Bulldog, go to American Bulldog World.

American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT)--The full, correct name for the breed commonly referred to by its nick name, "Pit Bull". This is a purebred breed of dog, recognized by the United Kennel Club (UKC) and the American Dog Breeders Association (ADBA).

American Staffordshire Terrier (AST)--Also known as AmStaff. A purebred breed of dog recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). All AmStaffs are direct descendants of American Pit Bull Terriers. No other breed was used in the establishment of the AmStaff. Some people still consider AmStaffs and Pit Bulls to be one and the same. AmStaffs my be registered with the UKC as "American Pit Bull Terriers".

Bloodline--A bloodline is a fairly recognizable, related "family tree" of dogs, usually produced by a specific kennel, or "foundation dog" from which it has its origins. A specific bloodline should produce offspring that have fairly predictable and somewhat unique conformation and temperament traits, within the scope of what is normal for the breed. Bloodlines are named, sometimes after specific dogs from which the foundation was started, othertimes from the kennel of origin. Examples: the Jeep bloodline, from which the famous pit dog Garrett's/Crenshaw'sChampion Jeep is the foundation, or White Rock, which is a kennel based out of Texas with a recognizable "family tree" of dogs.

Breaking stick--A smoothed out piece of wood with a flat end used to pry open the jaws of a dog that is gripping something. This tool is typically associated with dog fighters, but possession of a breaking stick is by no means an automatic indication of illegal activity. Responsible Pit Bull owners would do well to keep one handy at all times, "just in case".

Bulldog, (English)--Capitalized. This is the breed registered with the AKC as simply "Bulldog". It is a very old breed, and in it's original form, this was the dog that helped largely create the APBT. However, the modern day Bulldog is so radically different from the original version, that it is virtually a completely new breed, barely resembling the old time bulldog of English bull-baiting fame. For more information on the Bulldog, click here.

Bulldog--Not capitalized Some breed fanciers tend to refer to their APBTs as "bulldogs". Realize that "bulldog" is more a classification than any sort of official name or even a nick-name. Just as there are many "types" of retrievers, hounds, or terriers, there are a number of breeds that fall under the heading of "bulldog". Also, many people believe that the APBT is the closest living replica of the original bulldog, and feel that the breed got "cheated" when the name was officially given to that OTHER bulldog, the English version recognized by the AKC. In casual conversation, the name still gets used quite frequently in reference to the APBT.

Bull Terrier (BT)--The "Budweiser dog", very often mistaken for a Pit Bull. This breed was developed by crossing Pit Bulls with the Dalmation, Pointer and white English terriers. It is similar in build and close in size to the Pit Bull, but it's head--being egg-shaped--is the feature that sets it apart from other similar breeds. The Bull Terrier is recognized by the AKC. For more information on the breed, go here.

Gamedog/Gamebred--A dog/bloodline that has been proven in the pit to be "game".

Gameness--The exact definition of "gameness" varies greatly depending upon whom you ask. However, most Pit Bull fanciers can agree that this is the single most important trait the APBT possesses, and without the gameness, the dog is just a shell of what it should be. In the most general sense of the term, gameness can be described as "an unwillingness to give up, even under the most difficult of circumstances and despite the threat of death." Good breeders strive to preserve this trait in their dogs through some sort of working activity, be it stock work, bite sports, weight pulling, Iron Dog trials, etc. While some fanciers insist that the only way to preserve "real" gameness is in the fighting pit, modern society and humane attitudes dictate that we look to other ways to preserve the stable, tenacious, working temperament of the breed. Hot debates have raged as to whether or not this is even possible. However in a society in which dog fighting is not only illegal but morally objectionable, faniciers/breeders would do well to come together and unite in common agreement as to what can be done LEGALLY to preserve this most noble of breeds before it is too late and the true working Pit Bulldog is just a memory of the past. (It should be noted that gameness does NOT equal dog-aggression.)

Pit Bull--Capitalized. The nick name of the breed known as the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT). The only breed that can rightfully be called a Pit Bull is the APBT. Any other use of the name is in fact erroneous.

Pit bull--Not capitalized. Also, pitbull, pittbull, and pitt bull. Used to describe Pit Bulls and any other similar, related, or look-a-like breed or mix. Also sometimes used to describe any type of dog used for pit fighting. Although it is technically incorrect to call anything but a purebred APBT a Pit Bull, use of the term "pit bull" to describe a specific group of dogs has become so commonplace in certain circles that I felt the need to include it in the list of definitions. Breeds that are typically referred to as pit bulls (including in breed-specific legislation): American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers and American Bulldogs, also any mix of the above mentioned breeds, or dogs that look similar to the above mentioned breeds.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT)--A close relative of the Pit Bull and AmStaff. When the bull-and-terrier crosses were being made in the 1800's, certain strains that stayed in England developed into the SBT. Eventually, the SBT made its way to America where it was later recognized by the AKC. This breed is a bit smaller than the Pit Bull and AmStaff, never has cropped ears, and as a rule tends to be much less dog-aggressive (although some strains have retained that traditional combat-dog nature). For more information on the SBT, check out The Stafford Exchange.

There are such Pit Bulls with Red noeses such as my 3 Pits Zuse,Scooby& Zita 3,2,&8 months old,all have pinky lips, eyes, nose brindle red paw nails. Zuse is father to both Scooby and Zita, while zuse and zita are brindle and Sandy coloured they have white bibs and paws, whilst scooby who has that little more of a hart if you get what i mean is absolute pure brindle all over..and even his eyes (amber) match his coat..there all like lions somtimes, and when they play they jump as high as cats and always seem to land on all fours.. so reading some of your comments i can see the difference in charicteristics more so once i had read the historys of Blood lines for myself rather then just listen to myth and other peoples perception of them. i argee greatly with it all being down to the owners, and how you perent them. you show them respect and they will give it back to you ten times more. my dogs are so loving and loyal and all they want to ever do is play.always be warey of there nature, its a must, but at the same time give benifit of doubt, mine seem to appreasiate that so much they learn faster than you think about how they can get there way next time round.
they are indeed brillient judges of charicture, and they know emidiatly who is family.. they all get on with the kids and never have they behaved wrong twards them. my dogs love me so much they hug me and tuck there heads in between my arms then try there luck humping me.. its such a joke you cant help kiss them straight on their lips. one min there like men the next there like puppys.

Red Nose is a description of the dog. American Pitbull Terrier is the game bred fighting dog(breed). If you want to know anything about the type of pitbull you have you need to look at the bloodline of the dog. If you get a dog from someone and you ask them what kind of pit they have and they say red nose, blue or anything like that. They don't know what they are doing? a breeder should know its dogs pedigree and you should be able to read their paper to understand there blood line to make sure you are getting a good good dog. I see alot of people are saying that rednose is a breed its not. If you want to learn about the Pitbull breed go to gamedogs.com some of these people are telling you so wrong.

i live in p.b. Missouri and i haven't had any tell me I need papers on my pit. He is an 8 month old pit. He's half red-nose/half gator. He is the most biggest friendliest dog I have known. And I once was scared of him because my sis and I got attacked by our own dog who was a  rottweiler growing up..(she didn't recognize us bundled up in a big overcoat). And we don't and never have punished the breed. It just took some time getting used to big dogs again. But with my pit Cosmo, I feel so save. He's my baby!

Why are you people so ignorant? An American Pit bull Terrier, may be blue, brindle, red, black or some other coat color and have a red, a black or blue nose and it is still the same breed.

Yeah there are red nosed, blue nosed, black nosed pit bulls. It is just a nose color, the same as  coat color, it doesn't constitute a different breed.

If you have a blue nosed pit bull and a red nosed pit bull there are still the same type of dog just different color.

The same as us humans with different eye color we are still humans. A mexican, an African American, A Europen person can have brown eyes or different colored eyes it has nothing to do with race or breed in the case of dogs IT IS JUST A COLOR!!!!!

i have an american pitbull, which is red in colour, yellow eyez. im not debating what breed is which and the history of this breed, all i know is that i have never owned such a dog in which i loved so much. no matter what kind of pttbull u own 1 thing i know we kan all agree on is that we love these dogz and instead of debating which breed is which, turn your energy into trying to change the laws against this bread, because i know from owning this dog that they are not born aggressive, there breed that way...

Some of you sound like a bunch of idiot losers.  There is no such breed as a REDNOSE pitbull.  You have one idiot saying he has 5, and this , and that, "does anyone want to breed".  People like that are the reason pitbulls have the stereotype that they do.  Just shut up, educate yourself, and go buy a Boxer, or a Lab, or a cat.  Please all of you sound like a bunch of retards!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, American Pitt Bull Terrier= Breed, Red Devil, Razors-edge, etc.= Bloodline, Red Nose, Blue Nose, Black Nose, Brindle= Color. The reason that the different color variations are more rare in some places and that is why you pay more for some colors than you would for others, depending on your location.  I just bought a "Red Nosed Pitt Bull Terrier" out of the Red Devil bloodline for 100 dollars.

ok this is to everyone that thinks they know everything... ok rednose is a blood line there are alot of blood lines Gator,Blue, Corvino, nigerino(invented by mexicans) staffordshire, rednose and so forth and people are coming up with more everyday it all depends of what traits you want you want a fighter you get corvino or a nigerino but be prepared for an aggressive dog...everything else just depends on size how big you want the head and such.. now rednose does not mean it has a "rednose" thats just the name the person who invented that bloodline called it like the blood line "blue pit" the dog does not exactly have to be blue that blood line goes off of how big the head is i have seen all white pitts that are "blue pitts" its like a gene now of course that dog can reproduce actual blue dogs down the road but it dosent have to be blue... but back to the rednose so i have an all white  half Gator half Staffordshire pitt he has what would be considered a red nose so what dose that make him a "red nose" NO!!   just tired of people getting it wrong its a blood line...
