l'mhaving problems with the transmission in my 1996 GMC...

l'mhaving problems with the transmission in my 1996 GMC Vandura 5.7l 1 ton. The transmission have been rebuilted twice in the past two years because there is a knocking noise when l shift the gear even  not moving and also when it is moving. That is when the gears are shifting.ls anybody out there that can help me with what is going on? The guys who rebuilt the transmission are telling me it is from the motor, but my mechanic is telling me its from the transmission. Help please.
