Restringing a 330-12.  I've searched this repeatedly.  A couple of useful suggestions to keep the ball ends from slipping the tailpiece before the strings are secured, but NOTHING on what to me is the critical issue: Installing the six slotted stings is incredibly difficult, especially at the D and G, where there is less than a half-inch clearance on the headstock end of the slot. I manage to do this with a pair of needlenose with two-inch tongs.  But it's still a bear, involving too much time, multiple finger punctures and much foul language.  I'm particularly amused/frustrated by John Hall's post describing the shop method of tape on the tailpiece.  That's the easy part. The headstock issue seems to be Rick's dark secret. Takes five minutes?  My foot.  Is there a remedy?

My recent model 330-12 is the best-made electric I've ever owned.  But the half-slot headstock design is a marvel of form over function.  It would be much easier if the slots were routed all the way through the headstock.
