i have a 2001 chevy tracker i had to replace the cam shaft...

i have a 2001 chevy tracker i had to replace the cam shaft but on removing them i didnt algin the marks for the arrows ..
do you know which way the arrows poin t, up or down , or side ways ..
i think they pointed down to match up with timming marks or timming belt ,, can yu help
