Today I noticed my 9 month old chihuahua is in heat when I saw a watered down blood drop on the floor after she jumped out of her cat box. A few days ago I noticed her she seemed 'big' down there but I just thought maybe I had not noticed that part of her was growing! Anyway, I guess I don't know how long she has been in heat and I wondered how long a heat lasts?

She's definitely been sleeping a lot more in the past week. She also pee'd outside her box a few times which is out of character. How long after her first heat do I need to wait to get her fixed? How messy can a 4 pound chihuahua in heat be? Will she get really bloody?
