I recently received intense pulse light treatments for the redness and broken capillaries associated with my facial rosacea.  I believe the the depth of penetration was too strong because I see deep white veins below the surface of my skin.  My face was not damaged but the skin underneath the layers looks uneven in depth.  Can this be remedied?  Please help.  Thank you for your time.

How many treatments have you had? What does your Dr. say? How dark is your skin? How long since your last treatment? Can you give me a better description of these "deep white veins"? I have had IPL on my hands and arms, but I have never seen anything white. I do have rosacea and I am considering IPL on my face.

has anyone tried intese pulse light therapy and had some short term results but then the rosacea actually progreese to persistent flushing burning and stinging and subsequent pimple breakouts? this happened to me, i simply had a small broken vessel in the middle of nose had ipl which instantly helped with that area and then wham 2 months latere ive progressed tremendously with all kinds of itching burning flushing etc that i never had previously to ipl treatment. ironically i think although this caused my rosacea to worsen i am now forced to have full facial treatments to get the burning under control. in other words im at the mercy of the light and will have to spend a small fortune to keep the burning under control. anycomments???

I have been having IPL treatment on my face to reduce my redness.  I have had approx 6 treatments and have never had any 'white veins'.  My practitioner uses a largish 'head' on the machine and what i have noticed, and was warned about, was 'striping'.  With the larger head it is more difficult to get perfect coverage of treatment.  Could this be linked to your 'white veins'?  Also, I've noticed capilliaries that have been zapped turn brown (some immediately, some over time)and then fade.  Could you be having a similar thing happening although perhaps with a different end result given skin type/colour etc.  I have fair, freckled, sensitive skin.

Hi, I have had rosacea for some years but now is getting worse. I am considering the IPL treatments but am concerned if they will administer them correctly. Does anybody know what their machine name was? Did you have to stop antibiotic medicine? What was your down time and with what side effects? I am scared they may burn my skin. I am a fair skin blue eyed blonde. When did you notice a difference?
Any information or direction to physicians phone numbers would be appreciated.

Hi,
I had a tratemnet called youthlight. It was nonabrasive and very safe. I had about 6 sessions, 3 weeks apart. it worked well for me. I didn't have any major skin problems, but I think it made my overall complexion very clear. I get a lot of compliments on my skin.

I have had some damage to my skin. It seemed to get thinner and stretch out after IPL, giving me a loose sagging look. I plan on filling it in with collagen. I guess that's my only option. No doctor would dare pull the skin taught at 22 years old.

I have had two light treatments and am very happy with the outcome.  The side effects from my rosacea are virtually gone, I have discontinued my rosacea "gel" and little by little my dark pigmented areas on my face are fading.  I had one "red spot" on my face which really bothered me...I was very self-conscious about it...GONE!!!  Mind you, this is after only two treatments...and I am scheduled to have five total.  I have to just be careful about using sunscreen and I am.  I use an SPF 45 broad spectrum sunscreen and I apply it several times a day if I'm out in the sun. This is a far cry from my sun bathing years with no sunscreen and my skin definitely paid the price!  Anyway, I do notice that immediately after the treatment I am splotchy and my darker pigmented areas on my face actually get darker, but fade after a few days.  My face kind of burns...like a bad sunburn...for about 4 hours after the treatment, then I'm fine.  The cost is quite expensive..$300.00 a treatment...but ya only have one face!! I'm happy...and I wish the best to all that go down this road!  Good luck! :o)

I am only fifteen but i have rosacea although it is not severe when i exercise my face turns bright red. I eventually want to be in the army so this could become a problem. Is there anyone who has had a treatment that helps with the veins close to the top of the skin? Has it worked well?

I'm currently experiencing my first ipl treatment. I'm a 45 yr-old male w/ slight rosacea and prominent veins around the upper cheekbone area of the eyes. The day after treatment, the eye areas swelled tremendously and I noticed a couple of spots on my face turn red and produce pustules. Five days later, the swelling is dropping and the red areas are healing. The eye areas were intentionally zapped w/ a great deal of energy to affect the deeper veins. If I opt for continued treatment, I,ll insist on a lower energy setting.

I am a 27 y/o fair skinned male with rosacea. I had my first IPL treatment yesterday and I am still waiting to see the end results. The swelling around my eyes is going away today and my face is less red. For the young lady inquiring about the Army and rosacea, I was in for 4 years and actually I think it got worse when I got out. You do PT in the morning before it's really hot (depending on your  duty station) and before the sun is up and intense. I will update in a few days. Let me know if you have anymore questions anyone...

I'm considering IPL.  I am 41 with red hair and freckles, and my pores have increased in size over time.  Doctor suggested that IPL would reduce pore size.  Is this accurate?  Any recommendations for practitioners in New York city or Long Island?

You all seem to be talking about laser based Intense Pulse Light treatments. Have you tried LED based IPL treatments? Softer touch, no downside noted and great results !!

Most of the problems associated with ipl are a result of over aggressive Drs. or machines.I am an esthetician and use a machine that has never caused any of the problems I'm reading about. Our machines may require one or two additional treatments, but cost much less and are VERY safe. Next time, call a skin care salon, not a doctor.

Hi all, I'm a 37 yo male,  blonde hair, blue eyed Rosacea sufferer. My condition is well under control using Cutanix cleanser and Cutanix dramatic relief and daily use of Linda Sy ZincO screen.  I have recently had one IPL session to get rid of the broken capillaries on the sides of my nose and a small section om left cheek.  The broken capillaries on my cheek have COMPLETELY disappeared after 1 treatment ;-)  The nose however is not so good, the broken capillaries are worse than ever, and this is causing me some concern.  I will persevere and update this site as my treatment continues.  The 'Linda Sy' ZincO tinted sunscreen is a life saver at this moment hiding the breakout on my nose.  lets hope this breakout is just part of the process!? Would love to hear anyones comments about this.

I am 48 with mild to moderate capillaries showing, I am fair skinned.
I was told I would need 5 treatments and that my face could be as red as a firetruck
for 2 or 3 days after treatment. I was also told the treatment will feel like I am being snapped with a rubber band on each pulse.
Please let me know how accurate this is.

Thanks

HELLO!

I am using IPL via my esthetician (28 west perfumerie and cosmetics, Towson, Md).

I have VERY sensative skin, and have blotches from previous acne healings/redness. The IPL is not invasive....and it works.

It is imparitive to use a sunscreen.....the treatments are helpful; coincidentially,  I have had great results...HOWEVER< it is NOT an "overnight" fix.

It takes a duration of a month to have successful results.

I just recieved my 1st IPL 20min. treatment yesterday to correct my sun damage blotchiness on my face! The redness did go away shortly after, but its 24hrs later and my face looks soo ugly and darker and uneven with 2000 freckles! Will this really fade or go away in a few days? I'm scared I've ruined my face! I'm due to go back for my next treatment in one month, but I'm scared! I'm embarrassed to go to work with all these dark spots that I feel makeup can't even hide completely! PLEASE anyone help me if this happen to you! I'm only 30 yrs old. The doctor said that my face will look like normal again in 3-5 days, but i'm scared it won't! I'm scared it won't look normal until I go through all 4-6 treatments, meaning my face will look gross for 6 months straight! Is this true?

I have dark skin and I started the IPL treatments three weeks ago along with 50% or 70% glycolic skin peels. I will have my fourth treatment this weekend. I actually have not seen much of a difference in my skin apart from the fact that it hurts and peels occassionally from the skin peels. I am considering discontinuing the treatments. In the end, this procedure will have cost me $2000 for a 15 week program. I was told that 90% of my skin problems will not return. That sold me, but I can not see that now.

I am a fair skinned male with rosacea on my nose which seems to be getting redder by the day.  I have tried various prescription drugs but to no avail. Some of these even seem to make it worse.  I am considering intense light system therapy and would like to hear from someone who has had experience with this.  I am a bit nervouse that the condition could be made worse.

I received one treatment of ipl.  I have seen good results so far.  I am suppossed to have three more treatments but they are very expensive($350) each time, and my insurance won't cover it.  Is that an average price for this treatment?  Does anyone know a good place to have them in Nassau County, New York?

hello

I too have had 1 session. It was pretty painful. Maybe because I was due on my period (heighten sensitivity) and maybe because I had previously been using a retinol cream on my face.

Anyways, after 1 session I didn't see any difference. But i did develop loads of spots! i zapped them with a prescriptive retinol and BP and now two days later my face has gone beet red as if I've been very badly sunburned....which maybe I have. I use a SPF moisturiser.

So, I advise not to use a BP or strong prescriptive retinol for several weeks after a treatment.

Despite much improvement I will definitely continue this treatment. I have heard amazing things and whats $1000 for perfect skin? (aherm.....)

BTW, Dr Leslie Baumann in "The Skin Type Solution" (amazing book!) advocates the latest in IPL - the Lumenis machine coupled with a treatment cream called Luvelan.

There are two kinds of machine - those found in beauty clinics and those that are termed as 'medical' and found at Dermotologists. The latter is considered more powerful and therefore more economical - you will need fewer treatments. However, i think it's maybe a bit more expensive. I went to Soho Derm in NY which is affilated and overseen by Dr Polis.

Hi all, I am a 19 year old male with olive skin. I have inhereted the wonderful disorder rosacea from my father and in the past year have noticed the redness and flushing are becoming more and more prominent. I have been using metrogel and finacea for a while, and am noticing no difference. I have been seriously considering IPL treatment, as I am a college student and this has been seriously affecting my social life. Do you think 19 yrs old is too young to get laser treatments??

I am a 39 y/o fair skinned male with rosacea as well.  I have had two IPL'sso far, with very noticeable results just two weeks after the first treatment.  The second treatment was today and they did a microdermabrasion first before the IPL.  I'm impressed with the results of the first, will have five total.  Have quit the rosacea gel as well.  Was originally just going to have the cheeks done but got my forehead done today just because of the sun damage.  Sorry I did not do this sooner.  Next treatment again in three weeks.

Like many of you, I had done the research on IPL and it sounded pretty safe. Unfortunately, after going in to even out my complexion...my skin is now scarred. I have white scars throughout my face. In addition, the skin around one of my eyes has lost some elasticity and now small lines have formed:( Depressing results considering I was just trying to improve minor skin problems and now I'm left with serious afflictions. This is one of those hard lessons in life. Wish I would have left my skin alone.

I have just had my first IPL treatment so don't know if it is working.  The technician would like to do one more treatment where I will be down for two weeks.  Apparently it will cause a very very great deal of bruising.  Has any one had this done?
