Hello I have a 7 week old Border Collie, Blue Healer mix. He is going to be an outside dog unless its cold outside. Well when I put him outside He howls for hours on end. He just got removed from his family and the people whom raised him. I know that can be hard. We want so very much to have a dog, But we cannot have this howling all the time. We have neighbors and don't want to upset them. Is there anything we can do???

bring other things into your yard such as dogs people or other things that he or she barks or take your dog to the park let him experience new things.

We have some dogs across our street and they bark constently.... These dogs are caged up and I think that is why they bark. I don't know if your dog is in a cage, but if he is then he may just want to run around.

Not sure if you're still having this problem since it's been so long, but for anyone else out there who might be dealing with this issue I just discovered a wonderful tool.  Not many people are fans of shock collars.  My husband and I use them, but there's a time and a place.  I don't think this is one of those times.  There are however collars that are made to help break the barking habit.  Instead of giving a jolt of electricty to the dog when s/he barks it sprays a citronella spray in their face.  The dog is irritated with this action and therefore stops the inappropriate barking.  The collars aren't cheap, they usually run around $60-$80, but are very effective.
