I need to change the front wheel bearings on my 86 Aries. I would like to know what tools would make this job easier. I know it's not!!

um,is it a skateboard?  why don't you just take it to a shop, and let them do it, and then you can just go ahead and buy new bearings or replace them while your at it!

I was just told the same thing not more than 15 minutes ago for my 88 Reliant!  I will investigate and get back to you.

an 86 Aries is a car not a skateboard and the bearings can be replaced by using a bearing puller or slide hammer to remove the outer bearing race, then the inner race can be removed by using a drift and a hammer.  if you have a double race of bearings, just repeat the process.

well, i thought that these bearings would be the same as my 84 caravan 2.2 both inner and outer bearings are sealed, and must be pressed out , and new in. sometimes the whole hub must be replaced. also check inner tierod ends for slop. for the age of the vehicles, at least replace driver side inner tierod end. these usually go first.

you take the whole strutt out to the bench  then you clamp it in a vice then you hammer the hub out of the center using a drift of similer size then you hammer the bearing out the same way ,now  you remove the strutt from the vise, now clamp a 1 and 5/8 socket in the vise then you rest the strutt right side up on the socket to support the bearing housing as you pound the new bearing in then the hub  , done

Don't ever try to force them out with a screwdriver. It will ruin them and you will be screwed.

HEY HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR WHEEL BEARINGS ARE OUT.. I HAVE A 2002 KIA RIO THAT WHEN I GET UP TO 60 OR MORE I HEAR THIS NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE BUT ONLY WHEN I GOT AT A HIGH SPEED????
