I have a cavalier named Chester. My vet said he has dry skin. I wash him in moisterizing shampoo and a leave on conditioner. He also takes omega oil. He still is uncomfortable with itching. Is there anything else I can do for him? Thank you so much for your time.

Try giving your dog a final rinse with a solution of Calgon Water Softener. I make up a solution and pour it over my dogs. Then be sure and give him a very good final rinse with plain water!  You will be surprised at how much soap residue you get out of a "well rinsed dog".

I use Hypo A shampoo on my Cavalier.  Then I use either very diluted Cowboy Magic or Mane and Tail Conditioner.  The last two products are made for horses but they really work.  You can also use them undiluted.  The shampoo is also hypoallergenic and my groomer uses it.  He may be allergic.  I'm sorry your baby is so scratchy.  Hope this helps.

Back again.  I noticed that someone else mentioned a dog food allergy.  They were using Candidae but there are a lot of possibilities.  You should definitely follow up on this idea.
You might also take your dog to a good groomer who might find the right products for you or try a vet who uses alternative approaches.   And perhaps you are washing the dog too often.  Sorry to send you spinning but I sure wouldn't stop looking at one well-meaning Vet.

For our dog, we use Vetrinary Formula "Oatmeal & Tea Tree Oil Infuser" and condition him with the "Oatmeal Protien Conditioner." We also added a Naturvet Ultimate supplement to his diet which will give him the proper omega fatty acids that will maintain his shiny coat. We found this method to be very effective and reccomend it for all Cavalier owners. I hope this information is helpful.
