I think that reggae music started by putting beats together and then they decided to give it a name and that is when they came up with the name reggae

actually, reggae music started when black slaves were captured and sent to America. While they worked, they sung 'work songs' (reggae) and this was the beginning of rap, R&B, gospel etc. etc.

Reggae music started inthe 1960s/70s. It started in Jamaica. Bob Marley made it Reggae by putting emotion and feelings into his lyrics. People like Desmond Dekker carried it on. 'No women, No cry' was a huge hit for Bob Marley.

Reggae is an African Caribbean style of music developed on the island of Jamaica and is closely linked to the religion Rastafarianism, though not universally popular among its members. The origins of Reggae can be found in traditional African Caribbean music as well as US Rhythm & Blues. Ska and Rocksteady are 1960's precursors of reggae. Bob Marley, who later popularized the style on a world-wide basis, also recorded Rocksteady records early in his career. The style of reggae he made famous is called roots reggae or roots rock reggae, and is still used by many artists such as Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Culture, Israel Vibrations, The Skatalites and Toots and The Maytals from Jamaica and UB40 from the UK.

reggae music all started when african slaves were caputured and were forbiden to talk. so there made a steel pan to commicate to each other. Then people like Bob Marley turned it into music, so it became famous

it started in the 60/70s when the slaves were sent 2 america but it wasn't called reggae yet, they were called "work songs". Raggae really began when bob marley sarted singing those emotional songs

You are all retarded. Reggae began in the early 60's. Instead of listening to the very english radio stations broadcasted in pre-independance Jamiaca, listeners would tune in to loud stations playing R&B/Soul from new Orleans (now, sadly gone). When independance came to Jamaica, the spirit of Freedom quickly struck the citizens and they yearned for their own type of music. They added their own Jamaican flavor the the R&B and came up with ska. Ska eventually evolved into reggae through the help of many great artists.

Reggae music got its origins by country music believe it or not. True, Jamaicans were bangin out beats on all kinds of things, when eventually they became exposed to American radio from the southeast USA. The stations that came in the best were that of southern country with a little bit of gospel of course( as everything had more gospel back then!)
It was after these things came together in the hearts of Jamaicans like Marley et al that reggae music was born..

Believe it..or not.

Bob Marley wasn't the first reggae artist you idiots. He just made it go international. Reggae was invented from ska and rocksteady. Reggae artists also invented rap in the 70s (Back then it was called mc-ing), and the African americans borrowed it in the 80s and turned it into hip hop later on.

Reggae came from a music called rock steady which came from ska which was inspired by funk and soul. the word reggae came froms from Toots Hibbert from The Toots and Martyls - who made a song called 'do the reggae' this song could not be defined as soul ska or rock steady - therefore created a whole new music that Jamaica went mad for as they finally had something to call their own. All Bob Marley did was stop talking about love and started talking about truths and rights and gave the oppressed people of the world the encouragement to get up and stand up for your rights - Jah Bless him - RasTafari Selassie I JAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
