Here is my status in US in brief:

29th August 2002: Entered US on J-1 Visa ( 2 year rule applies) - Post doc fellow.
30 Sep 2005:        Got H-1 Visa status petition approved  along with I-94 until Sep 2007

I have not been to my country (India) yet since I came to US and hence have not got my H-1 visa stamped but have a valid H-1 visa status

My spouse and my 4 year old Kid both are on H-4 in same condition (came on J-2 and now on H-4) with valid I-94 like me in US.

My offer from Canada:

I got a good offer from University of Toronto as Post-doc fellow to join from 1st March 2006.

Questions:

Can I apply for Canadian work permit /Visa at an embassy in Detroit Canadian embassy rather than going back to India and getting a work permit/Canadian Visa? Suppose we appear in person, taking in to consideration that all paper works will be intact and no medical problems, how long it would take for your good office to get a work permit/visa? Which number I need to contact to get an appointment to appear in person?.

I want to get work permit and bring my spouse and kid to Canada. What are the documents and fees I need to submit/ pay. Do I need to submit individual application for all?.

Suppose we are eligible to get our Canadian Visa  in US, and after getting the canadian visa, can I and my daughter travel to India for a short 15 days visit to India from US and then land Canada directly (from India) to join duty without any problems.

My spouse wanted to land Canada from US with our house hold goods as it is only 5 hours drive from Toledo to Toronto, soon after I land Canada from India.  Is it possible?
