First, change options to allow update of system tables.
1> sp_configure "allow updates", "true"
2> go

Change the status of the database to 0, the reboot the database server.

1> begin tran     \*In case it goes awry*\
2> go

1> update sysdatabases set status = 0
2> where name = "<DB NAME>"
3> go

If only one row is affected, proceed, otherwise rollback the transaction
1> commit tran
2> go
1> shutdown
2> go

When the server restarts it will try to recover the database.

Don't forget to set the option to allow updates back to "false" when you are done.
