It's not just the question of the Indian Army, but all the defense forces around the world uses Satellite images. It's is very much similar to aerial reconnaissance. By using satellite's, you don't have to violate any International Laws and risking your fellow soldier's/pilot's life. Plus, the people in defense do much more research, hence they might also use it for different geographical studies.
