My Yorkshire terrier gave birth to two pups Monday night. She will not stay in the whelping box. She keeps moving the smaller pup and he cries then she runs between the two pups while she whimpers. Two times today she brought the pup to me and she is very agitated. When both are crying she runs between the two. She has tried to jump up on the bed with the pup holding it by one leg as it screams. She had moved them 7 times just today and I am afraid she is going to hurt these healthy guys. They have both gained 2 ounces since birth when they weighed 3 and 4 ounces. What can I do to keep her calm and accepting one spot that is warm?

I am experiencing the same thing, my dog gave birth 5 days ago to two pups and has started carrying the largest to where I am, leaving the smallest in her basket. I bring the other to be with us and she is fine. Both are feeding and she takes care of both, I just feel she needs a break from them and trusts me to watch over them for her, as this is the only time she will play with our other dog.

She is not sure where her loyalties lie. She wants to be with you, but her puppies need her. Put her in her box with the puppies, in a secluded place, with newspaper down or access to toileting outside. Leave her alone. Just visit every few hours to feed her and encourage her to toilet. After a day or two her instincts should take over and she will stay with her puppies.
As they get older she will spend more and more time out of the whelping box.

My yorkie did the same thing with her first litter. She was dragging them all over the house, so I put them and her in a large kennel so she had to stay with them in one place. I would let her out to pee and eat. then she was put back in the kennel with her pups. It all worked out fine and I didn't have to worry about her dragging pups every where.

My Yorkshire terrier gave birth 3 weeks ago.  She had 4 puppies, one of which was stillborn.  She now has 2 girls and 1 boy that are all extremely healthy. She is a good mother and is doing a great job. However, one of girls crys and growls excessively, she seems completely healthy but shes always crying or barking.  I think she may be hungrier than the other 2. is it time to wean her? Or could it be something else? Help please!

Either this is her first litter, or there is something wrong with the puppy.  Or Both.  Did you bring the puppies to the vet yet?
