I have 4 tattoos, and i got my first one on my 16th birthday, my parents came with me, it wasnt much it was a tribal tatoo that i got the summer before my birthday when i was thinking about a tattoo, we went to australia and this dude in a bar had it on his arm, i asked what it meant, he said it meant respect, that whover looked upon it would feel he was a man who disearved respect... i relized then that i wanted a tattoo like that... he said that many ppl around there had it, so i had it done on my birthday when i got back to california, i drew it from the guys arm, and the tattoo guy tatted it on my arm... its the tattoo im most proud of, it has the most hisory for me... if you really want to get a tattoo, make it memorable, not only the tattoo, but what lead up to your decision... its something you will have to live with for life... it hurts a lil goin on... it hurts a hell of alot more coming off... remember that... sry for the history, i thought youd enjoy it... as far as i know you can get your tattoo as young as you want as long as your parents are there to sign... my baby cusin zeck is 4, my uncle had him get a tattoo in a normal tattoo parlor, signed for it and everything, i was there, i was wasted, but i was there... without parents its gotta be at least 18 im sure of it... i mean, you can buy porn at 18, im sure you can get your own tattoo... anyway, i gotta go, peace...

This really isn't an answer but I am 16 and my mom said I can get a tattoo and so I went today and they said no one under the age of 18 can get a tattoo in the state of new york (i wanted to curse him out! but i didn't) but I believe that is total B.S. because I had my mom come with me and thhey said not even parental consent would do anything. I am trying to get to Jersey and see if I could get a tattoo there but according to the websites I have looked at these past 5 hours, it is still illegal to get a tattoo in New York and New Jersey. I guess I'll just have to find someone willing to tattoo me up and if the cops come I'll just tell them I got it in Arizona and if they ask me where in Arizona, I'll just say I was on a 1 day layaway b/c of a storm and I got one 2 hours away. I know ya'll think I'm good. Just to let ya'll know, the tattooist is caught tattooing a minor can be charged with a level 3 misdemeanor so yea...good luck ya'll!!!

heh. some'a you guys sound pretty lame. Im 15, and veryy interesting in tattooing. Its something i've never even had to think about, i've wanted one since i was 6. I have a billion of my own sketched designes, it took me 3 years to finally decide on the one i want. A week later, i changed my mind. My point is, why the hell would you want to get a tattoo with your mum? Not only should you give your design at least a years concent, but seriously, this is big. Its going to represent who you are for the rest of your life. And although its taking all my will power to postpone my tattoo. I think its better to wait 'till you legal.(in most states thats 18.) It's a brilliant way of marking your independence. And good things are always worth the wait. (and to the people who say they are underage, but have a boyfriend whos legal, dont be stupid. Unless you want to risk a crappy tattoo from a un-steril needle in some junkies bathroom, your not getting a tattoo with only your boyfriends concent at 15)

I think if you're 13, or anywhere under 16 you shouldn't even be worried about a tattoo. The only people that are going to tattoo you are places that need money, arent good artistically, and arent as clean as they're supposed to be. Things that you can get from getting a bad tattoo are life threatening. it isnt worth being cool. I'm 17. I;ll be 18 this winter. My tattoo has serious meaning to me. Im not just getting something stupid and "cool" on my back. My mother and I developed a tattoo that had an immense meaning to the both of us. We're getting twin tattoos, and I wanted to know how old you have to be (legally) to get a tattoo(from a legit place) with a parent.

ok. honestly. those of you who are 13, 14, 15.....you have absolutely no business getting a tattoo. i'msorry to use the age thing here, but seriously. what in the world do you have put permanently on your body right now? you have no idea what kind of person you will be in 5 years. believe me, YOU DO CHANGE. and what you like now can be the complete opposite of what you like 5 years from now, when you're not in middle school or a freshman in high school. and as for the girl who got a homemade tattoo, that IS NOT SAFE. there are numerous ways to get various diseases, most importantly hepatitis. never ever ever ever get a homemade tattoo. always go to a professional. and wait a couple of years. getting a tattoo right now is not imperative.

in most states you have to be 18 to sign yourself, or if you're not that old you have to have a parent or guardian with you.

i think that if you have your parents permission, than you should be able to get a tattoo at any age. preferably about 12.

The answer to how old you have to be to get a tattoo in pennsylvania is 18. However with parental consent you may get your tattoo at age 13.

well here.. we cant do a tattoo on a minor ( under the age of 18) unlessssss... the parent takes the Minor to court and gets a consent form the judge... buuuuuttt it can only be for covering up a "gang tattoo".... but we can do a piercing on a minor.. with the parents consent ONLY!.... both have to bring an id.. ( something with picture and DOB ) it can be any kind..........

I've done a fairly extensive amount of research on tattoos, and the age limit (usually) is 18. However the age limit with parental consent (signed form) is 16.

i think you should be able to get a tattoo if u have parents sign a paper saying u have the permission to have it done.

in illinois you have to be 21 to not have to have parents permission. how dumb is that? a few states are still 21 as far as i know, but most are 18. they might be changing illinois to 18 though. i'mtrying to find out, if anyone knows....

to the person who wants to get a tattoo in new york state, even if your boyfriend went with you there is no way in hell you can get one because you have to be 18 no GOOD artist will ink you if you are younger even with parental consent.

To get your lip pierced with your parents there, u have to be atleast 13 or 14, it depends on what the piercer does.

I dont think its a good idea to get a tattoo at age of 13. My friend got it 14 years old and she doesnt like it. I think you should really consider the picture. Do you like it after ten years? I wouldent take a tattoo yet. My piercings are enough :) Maybe when im 15 or 16 i will take a tattoo.
