This is a question I need an answer to as well.....my dog is 1 1/2 and she started doing the same thing around the age of 1.  She doesn't do it very often, but it seems as though it happens after she's gets in trouble for playing to rough, etc.  I thought it might be anxiety.  She's also been having allergic reactions to something (we haven't been able to figure out what) every few months for the last year.  So the hard time breathing may be a symptom of the reaction....Any suggestions would be much appreciated...

My Cairn Terrier suffers the same affliction. My vet calls it "Reverse Sneezing" and says dogs may sometimes pass out if it gets too bad, but when they do, their breathing returns to normal. I think Zorro was prescribed Tavist D for it and it got better. Now he only occasionally has that happen to him. It's probably related to allergies as Zorro also has a terrible scratching problem, which is why I was looking at this Q & A section in the first place. My vet wasn't overly excited by the reverse sneezing problem, although I had plenty of anxiety about it until it got better.

*******WARNING*******: TAVIST D has pseudophedrine in it (hence the "D" symbolizing decongestant). This is dangerous for dogs.

YOU MUST use only "TAVIST" or a generic form of clemastine without another active...these are usually advertised for sinus or congestion.

i have a staffordshire bull terrier who will suddenly 'pant' its not like normal panting, because he is weezing.

he doesnt really have to do much, he'll just suddenly start weezing for about a minute.

my dog did the same there's not very much you can do just reassure your dog when this happens by rubbing it on the back so it feels comfortable and patting it if it hasn'tstopped within a minute or so
