I own a chow/husky mix. he is gentle cos he was raised with love. remeber that that is how thier manners come about. if they are raised with love or not. But my baby also thinks hes a person.=) Huskys are known to be great with kids, so i wouldnt worry about the chow in him. chows were also bred to be protector dogs of the home in japan, so he may learn to protect his kids. dont tell your homeowners insurance that he is chow cos then your rates will go up! I learned this while getting my own renters insurance.

I had a pure bred Chow previously.  He was a very sweet dog.  They are just very protective of their owners.  Especially since the dog is mixed with Siberian Husky, which is a great people dog, I don't think I would worry too much.  Just observe the dog's tempermant.

I don't believe that you should worry about your dog. We had a pure bred chow when i was a kid (3-4 years old) and it was raised around us since it was a puppy. She was the sweetest thing and never even so much as growled at us kids. Chows only have a bad reputation because some owners don't raise them right. When raised with love and attention they are really very sweet.

My chow/husky mix passed away Dec. 29. I had to have him put down. His name was Grizz. He looked more husky but had the black tongue. People thought he was a wolf. He was beautiful. I too am looking for that mix again. He was very protective but good with my daughter. I would recommend this mix to anyone. Again, as has been stated, it is really how they are raised. I miss him so much. I will always love him.

I have a six month old husky/chow mix. He has a very good disposition and is good with children and cats alike. We have worked diligently on socialization and training also. We take him everywhere we can, to little league games and other family activities. The cats hated him at first, and now tolerate him. Our male cat even occasionally plays with him (without his tail brushed out!) This is a good mix I believe, but it is always important to both train and socialize your dog.

I have a 7 year old chow husky mix and he has been socialized with other dogs (both male and female) from day one.  I have done much research on both breeds and can attest that he exhibits traits of both.  Klondike probably best fits the behavior pattern of an Akita minus the food-agressive tendencies. He is good around older children (8 years and up), but younger ones should be supervised.  He has been around a 6 month old and behaved perfectly.  All young children should be supervised around dogs especially ones that are territorial/protective such as chows.

Hi all.  I just brought an 8 week Chow/Huskey mix into my home with four kids this past Sunday, 5/16/04.  She is a great puppy that thinks is one of the kids.  She goes everywhere we go and will only be in a room if someone is with her.  Since I have to leave her outside during the day, she will wait by my bedroom window to wait till we come home.  She sleeps in her playpen with my girls and the funny thing is that she sleeps in the same directions as them.  Even though she has only been with us for about a week, it feels that she is part of this family as a my little blond toddler with a spotted purple/black tongue, hazel almond shaped eyes, curled up tail and Huskey face.  I got her in Rowland Heights where this Veteranian actually breeded these dogs on purpose to come up with this beautiful creation.  Now I know why.  Sasha is my little baby girl and is know part of the family.  With all your Love from you/your family, they will be great with your kids.

We have a one and a half year old husky/chow. We got him when he was 6 and half weeks old. He's such a great dog! He looks more husky but has a spotted tongue.  He also has some chow hair around his ears- very cute!  Most people think he isn't friendly, but that's only to strangers.  He is so wonderful and protective of the family.  I don't know anyone else with this mix so I was excited to find this site and hear of others who have and love their husky/chows.

My beautiful husky chow mix is also named Sasha, she is blond with mostly a blue tongue.  We rescued her when she was about 3 months old.  Sasha is now 3 years old.  We cold not ask for a better dog, she is so loving and sweet with everyone, and very obedient.  Where ever we take her she is always getting looks and compliments on how pretty she is. Of course they look at her and go is she a chow or a husky?, my answer is she is a CHUSKY :-)

My husky chow mix was showing some aggressive tendencies when i first adopted her.  We socialize her with every dog we can find, and take her to doggy day care once a week to play with 30+ dogs.  She is an angel!!  She doesnt like people coming to our house unless we tell her its ok, but thats fine by me!

My husky/chow mix was the most loveable dog I ever had.  We "rescued" him when he was a puppy and raised him with three kids, one black lab and four cats.  He never minded whatever the kids or other animals did to him.  He loved to chase anything that moved.  Unfortunately, this led to his demise yesterday.  Although we have the "invisible fence" and he was very cautious near its perimiter, something must have caused him to give chase.  Upon coming home, he was struck and killed by a van.  A great friend will be surely missed by all who have has the pleasure to have known him.

Indeed chows can be great with kids and people and I have had chows since I was 12 ...but two points ;
1: Chows do not growl as a rule. If they are annoyed their forst instinct is to walk away from the source of annoyance. If they are suitably annoyed they snap. Usually without warning that is why people think them agressive. its not because they do more damage to people its because they don't waste time with idle threats. Chows are a very honest and primitive breed. What they want they do,with a lot of socialisation most chows can learn to compromiise a little :-)
2 "Chows only have a bad reputation because some owners don't raise them right. When raised with love and attention they are really very sweet." This simply is not true !!!  Genetics play a large part in chows as I mentioned I have been involved with chows for 18 years now. I have seen even puppies from the same litter and brought up together display completely diiferent behaviour. There has also been inherent nervousness and agreesion in several different lines of Chows. Chows will react agressively not submissively when nervous as a rule. To simply blame the owners and claim they did not love the dog enough is not being realistic. In fact I have seen many chow owners who loved their dogs and were bitten when the chow decided to discipline them. It is important to know your breed. I do and I still love them. having a husky /chow cross seems a good idea to me as huskys are a lot more social. I would not worry too much about your own children but I would especially watch friends kids as the dog may not accept them being rough with your kids. and as was mentioned with all dogs young children should be supervised :-)

I have a chow/husky and she is a beautiful two year old. When she was a puppy I tried to give her away so many times, as she did not want to be held or cuddled and would panic when we did. But as fate goes, I kept her and I would not trade her for anything now. She protects me and never leaves my side when I am home and loves me to pieces. This breed does not need to be yelled at, simply spoken firm to and shown love and they'll do whatever you tell them. Easy to house train but don't turn loose on their own as the husky part wants to run away and explore.

I have owned a chow/husky mix female for 9 yrs, adopting her when she was 2 yrs old.  She is wonderful with people and our family cat, but very agressive with other dogs.  I am unable to let her approach other dogs at all hence a royal dog fight will occur.  She is so lovable though with people.  Her name is Satchie and I just wouldn't trade her for a million bucks!

I love my husky-chow but she is very agressive & I take offense at people who say it is just about how they are raised.  Our family has had her for a full year now & got her when she was about 8 weeks old. We have loved her & constantly have tried to train & socialize her but she is constantly aggressive to humans, children & adults.  No one can come in our home or near our car if she is out with us or she goes completely nuts...She has biten myself, all 3 of my children & tonite a dear friend. None of us were doing anything threatening in any way. In fact, my friend was just petting her calmly & she seemed to be enjoying it until my friend stopped & then she went crazy biting her arm in a number of places...I am beside myself with sorrow. I have raised 3 other large dogs before her & Never had problems like this.  The funny thing is she is So Sweet most of the time.  Loves to lick my face to wake me up in the morning.  Loves to play fetch with the ball.  She's so smart & I am just heart broken because if this continues we are going to have to put her down.  If any one has any suggestions (not just blame for the owners trying to deal with this) I would love to hear them.

I have a 4 year old husky/chow that I have had since she was 5 weeks old. She is a very loving and protective dog, but trys my patience every day. She digs under the fence just about every other day. Just as I have patched one hole she digs another. She doesn't mind even though I have spent about $400.00 on training. She sheds like crazy and my house never seems clean because of all the hair. She chews up whatever she can when we are not home and she snarls at my 5 year old nephew. I have been afraid a few times that she will bite him. I have a baby on the way and am afraid how she will act once it gets here.I am seriously considering getting rid of her or making her an outside dog. I do not recommend this breed to anyone. I love her very much and she is beautiful but too much to deal with.

I moved into a home with a Husky chow mix that had been rescued.  He is unbelievably mellow and even runs away from my kitten.  he is an absolute pushover.  But the minute someone comes near our home he turns into a guard-dog.
He looks more Husky than chow, but does have that purple tongue.  on walks away from the house, he greets everyone and their dogs with a large amount of excitement.
He isn't too keen on children, but in my experience most rescued animals don't care for children, as children are a source of anxiety.
It's all about how you raise the dog... and teach your children to behave around that dog.  As long as your dog knows it is cared for & your children are something you care for, you should have wonderful results.  Though if you have itty bitty children, such as infants and toddlers, you may want to keep them out of grabbing distance from your dog.  babies love to grab things and pull to bring them close to them.  and as it is I don't like having my hair pulled by children.  I cant imagine my reaction if my only form of expressing myself were barking/growling/nipping.  And babies that are beginning their mobility phase might try to use your furry friend as a pull-up aid.

Don't worry! :) Just train him with love and firmness. We have a Chow/Siberian Husky mix. He is gorgeous and only 10.5 months old. Very playful, loads of energy, protective, learns commands quickly. Snuggles in the morning, so warm to lay next to. They are a wonderful breed and very loyal. Remember, never discipline a dog by hitting him/her in/on the face/head. They will learn to obey but not keep their trust for you as the owner/alpha. We spank him on his but and he knows he is supposed to stop whatever he is doing. Chow chow will try and chew on quite a few things. While teething and growing they love to keep themselves busy. Just teach a dog to chew only one type of item, like give him/her socks knotted up and take away other things. When taking away a "non-acceptable" chew item, always replace it with an acceptable item ie. the sock. Good luck, they are wonderful dogs! So pretty when they stretch out too!!

I adopted our husky/chow dog (Frosty - he's mostly white with a mix of light brown/tan patches and one little black circle on the back of his tongue) from the local Petsmart adoption when he was about 2 months old.

He's 6 this year.  He's great with my two little boys (2 and 4). Very loving and protective of us and tolerates their grabbing and pulling on him.  He always has to keep tabs on where everyone is and positions himself in the middle to keep watch. :)

I got a beautiful Chusky when she was about 6 weeks old. She is absolutly the love of my life. My wife and I are not gonna have and kids, she became the next best thing. Within, when she turned 2 months I started to train her. She already knows NO, STAY (sorta), HEEL, UP, DOWN, SIT and SHAKE! She only goes to the bathroom outside and uses puppy pads still left out for those late night emergencies (very rare). As far as kids, shes awesome! She does get very protective of Mom and Dad.. but what can ya say, shes a daddies girl. I will never have any other bred of dog! Chuskies ROCK!

Don't worry about the chow harming your children.  Chows are VERY protective of their owners and their territory.  Our chow, which we obtained at 8 weeks of age, was absolutely wonderful with our family.  He did NOT like other humans venturing on our territory, but that was fine with us.  Since his passing two weeks ago at the age of 13, we've already had a bike stolen.  We are in the process of finding another chow for they, in our book, are the VERY best breed for a family - not only to love but for protection.  Turns out, while I was young, my family had two chows at different times for the very same reason.

I had a chow/husky mix dog for almost 18 years. I found him when he was just 6 weeks old. I bottle fed him and nurtured him and he grew into a beautiful reddish/blonde c/h dog. As he grew he was loving and gentle and allowed my 3 children who were ages 1,2 and 4 years old at the time. He grew up with my youngest daughter. And he was very protective over all of us. But more with the kids. He loved walking them to school and walked them home after school too. He did climb fences and wander out at night. But always came home in time for bed. And was absolutely fearless when it came to other dogs who tried to do harm to my kids. He never barked unless it was at someone trying to get near the kids or us. He was the best dog we ever had and we cried profusely the day he died.  And will always miss him. If this doesn't tell you what kind of dog this breed is. I don't know what else to tell you. But we would love to have another chow/husky mix again.

Hi I'm 15 and my name is Cameron, I've wanted a Siberian Husky for a long while now and I'll definitely get one when I'm older. I was wondering if anyone could send in a picture of your Husky/Chow mix since I cant seem to find any pictures of them anywhere. I also love chow chows they are awsome dogs and I figured it would be cool to put my two favorite dogs into one mix breed. lol Im anxious to see what it would look like. =)

I have a 4 yr old Chow/Husky mix that has been raised with nothing but tender loving care. She is very obedient and protective of me and has been the best dog ever...UNTIL..this past year this aggression towards kids and other dogs became apparent.  I got a new min pin and she attacked her almost killing her.  Today she got free of her leash and attacked a dog walking by.  As far children go, she pulls ferociously on her leash trying to get at them even though she has never attacked a human.  I never saw any sign of any behavior prior to be worried about and in-fact I am totally baffled.  I figured that since are such sweet dogs that I never had to expect the aggression to come out.  BUT IT DID. so... keep a close eye as they get older.

I had a husky/chow dog for 12 years. He was a great friend, and loved people and walks. When he was between 4 and 5, he'd break out and go for looong walks, and eventually wander home. That's the husky in him! But he was a very sweet dog, that loved people, and showed aggressive tendencies only at the vet! But he grew to be okay with them. He loved the ice and would sleep on it. Not a big fan of swimming, but didn't mind walking in water.  Anyhow, have fun with your beautiful dogs! They're pretty mellow and alot of fun!

I just recently adopted a Chow/Huskey he's 3yrs and the most sweetest dog ever. He is wild and care free outside but when he steps foot in the house he is the most calmest thing ever. I think the fact that he is mixed with such a loving dog such as a Huskey tames his aggressive side. i haven't had any problems with this dog and i constantly have people in and out of my house.

I just have got a chow/husky mix.She is 8&1/2 weeks. She is 3 quarter husky 1 quarter chow. Though she is very playful and loving she can have a very bad temper. So far she loves other dogs and loves to play with them. She also loves our cat but the cat on the other hand dislikes Ivey. She isn't the type of dog that likes to be held but when she wants attention she lets you know!! We haven't had her long enough to know whether or not she is good with younger kids but im 14 and she can sometimes get very mad at me exspecially if im showing her too much attention or not enough! She is a beautiful white with golden color on her belly like her dad!! Her eyes are dark brown and outlined in a baby blue!! She is a wonderful creature and I love her to death I recomend everyone to have a mix of huskey and chow!
