THIS REMARKABLE BREED OF DOG HAS GOTTEN A BAD REP. FROM IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS..OF ALL AGES...I HAVE 3, TWO OF WHICH I RESCUED FROM PEOPLE WHO FIGHT THEM, THEY WERE MALNOURISHED AND THEIR GROWTH WAS SEVERELY STUNTED BECAUSE OF THEIR ABUSE....THAT IS MY TWO MALES.MY FEMALE I BOUGHT TO BREED...THEY ARE WELL THERE IS NOT ENOUGH WORDS TO EXPRESS MY LOVE FOR THESE DOGS, I BELIEVE AGE IS NOT WHAT MATTERS AS FAR AS OWNING ONE OF THESE DOGS, IS WHETHER OR NOT THE PERSON WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE THE DOG WHAT IT REALLY NEEDS AND THAT IS LOVE, LOVE LOVE, NOT FIGHTING....... YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT countrygranny64@earthlink.net if you would like to........

the child should be mature enough to handle the task of dog ownership, not only that the child should be strong enough to control the dog some pit bulls have a very high kill drive, my male is like that he is fine with people and children (though a little rough )
will kill any medium to small animal he can get his teeth on he has even tried to kill a cow but the point being that a child under the age of 16 couldn't control this dog, but it all depends on the dog you have but if the dogs going to be the child's responsibility a pit bull probably isn't the best choice for a kid under 15

I am 15 and I own a pit. Of course I know alot about animals and dogs in general, I also know how to control a dog like the Pit bull. It all depends on the person not their age. Hey some adults shouldn't even have theses dogs.

about 8yrs if the child is intelligent and patient i gave my nieces a pit-rotweiller mix and told my brother to give them a book on dog obedience and let them raise the puppy with some input from him, this built a bond with the children that is unshakeable the dog is a living 115lb stuffed animal that no stranger can get near this approach should be used carefully the kids live in aremote area with no neighbors and dad is away at night alot thats why i gave them this amimal and not a lab.

there is no set age.  it depends on the person who wants to own one.  these dogs need a lot of attention so that they don'tbecome aggressive.  i have three children and had two pit bulls (one was put to sleep because of cancer) I'venever had a problem with them around my children or anyone else who's come into contact with either one of them.  i just depends on how u raise them.  if u r thinking of owning one, always remember: IN ORDER TO SAFE GUARD YOURSELF AND FAMILY, U HAVE TO RAISE THEM LIKE U RAISE UR CHILDREN.

i am thirteen and i own a pit bull and i have been around them for the past year or so i know they have a bad rep. and when i first got the dog it was for the tough look i would have with a tough dog but that all changed when i got to know her even as a puppy she would bark at some body she has never met like we woke up to a break in and she was biting his pants and she saved aome lives and money she is know a gaurd dog at my house i trained her myself and i am 13 and she listens perfectly so i dont think age matters i am going to give my two year old brother a puppy of hers i will take care of it for a wile but he is a straight up responcible kids so he can handle it

I think that if you are responsible you can own a pit. My brother and I have two and he's only 7 and I am only 11 my dogs are grate and we have had our dogs for a year and a half and they protect our house like secret service protects the president.
