I wish to use my house wiring with a gas generator in case of power failure during a hurricane.  Is there a problem with 1)turning the main breaker off and then 2) connecting the generator to the house wiring via the clothes dryer outlet (220v)?  The wire from the generator includes two hot wires, neutral, and ground.  My dryer outlet includes two hot wires and neutral.  Can I wire the neutral and ground coming from the generator (4 wires total) to the neutral of the dryer plug (3 wires total)?  Any problems as long as I make sure the main circuit breaker is off and I do not overload the generator?
