It could be the peanut butter.  It's not easy determining the cause of dog allergies, because there are so many factors.  It could be something the dog is inhaling, or something that's absorbed thru the skin, as well as a food allergy.

The best way to find out if it's a food allergy, is to keep the dog's diet very simple in the beginning, no treats or table scraps.  Try feeding a grain free food.  And observe the dog very closely.

My dogs suffer from allergies and it's very frustrating.  I know how you feel.  My vet recommended giving them benedryl to make them a little more comfortable.  Just check with your vet for right dosage.  The dosage varies for each dog's weight.

Good Luck

yes a dog can develop an allergy to peanut butter. I have a Lab mix dog that after a year of eating peanut butter flavored treats and peanut butter KONG filling with no problem, started throwing up and itching after eating it and the vet stated that he developed an allergy to it.

It seems possible. My dog has gone through numerous itching problems( including one now)- sometimes its allergies. Our vet told us to stick to a dog food diet- no scraps- no human foods one so ever ! And if it continues- try a different food. there are medicated shampoos available for those problems- ask your vet !
Good luck !

According to my vet yes, we are having the same trouble with my boxer and he is convinced it is the peanut butter.  I was told pure breds are more likely to have problems than muts, however not always.  We introduced a new soft dog treat out by Dad's dog food that is soft and smells is to taste like peanut butter.  Our Boxer goes crazy for the treat, then he broke out terrible all over and lost his hair on his back side, it was the only change and we are convinced it was the treats.  He is slowly getting his hair back.  Dec. 2005.

Yes, Our Yellow Lab will have a seizure after eating peanut butter.  We use to administer his medication with peanut butter.  And a few hours later he would have a seizure.  We stopped the peanut butter and there were no more seizures.
