My JRT suffers from allergies this time of year, we think that it is ragweed. We have tried lots of different drugs and ointments, with no relief. Any suggestions?

My JRT has developed itchy, red blotches during the summer and the vet has prescribed "ChlorhexiDerm Shampoo" to be used once a week.  Although I do not bathe my dog often enough, I find that if I use "Relief Conditioner" the itching is lessened.  I also apply a hydrocortisone cream between bathing.

My JRT has irritated paws and has bad itching.  We have tried hydrocortisone cream and bathing him and even put on a "cone" around his neck as to prevent the scratching.  The vet quoted $500 for a biopsy..not sure if I want to fork out that kinda cash.  Can anyone tell me if there is any other treatments available?

My JRT has allergies as well... we think to mosquito bites..  Our vet gives her cortizone shots and prednezone pills.. it seems to help..

I also use Bactracin spray on her.. to stop the itching.  She loves it.

My JRT has allergies that started off severe and have lessened over the past two years. It started with irritated paws, chewing his under-belly, and all over scratching. I took him to a special veterninarian that deals only with allergies. They do similiar allergy testing on dogs like they do on adults. He is allergic to several different plants, trees, etc.. He has been on allergen injections for two years, takes an antihistimane twice a day, and bathes with maleseb or hy-lyt shampoo. It's been a long road but he has definately improved. For those of you who have JRT that love to lick their feet, watch out for yeast. A suspicious sign that your dog has yeast is inflamed feet with yellow or brown/black stained toe nails. Your vet can prescribe Nizoral shampoo to help fight the yeast. Good Luck!

I have two male jrt's. My one started getting red itchy skin and scratched so much he lost some fur. His brother however was fine. So we knew it wasn't the mange, we tried anti-itch shampoo/conditioner and sprays but nothing seemed to work. Finally while in a pet store I picked up a jrt book and went to health problems there they perfectly described what he had. It was a flea allergy. We bought a flea spray and sprayed them and the house once a week and he finally got better. Turns out alot of jrt are allergic to fleas.

Our little guy had horrible allergies! He would gnaw at his feet and rectal area to the point of bleeding. We had him allergy tested which showed many allergies. We gave him injections for over a year. His allergies did get better, but did not go away completely. We gave him a rawhide bone at Xmas which he loves. No sooner than he started chewing it up he had full blown allergies back. We snuck the balance of the bone away. All that money and his discomfort turns out to be a rawhide allergy. Tough for a little guy who loves rawhide; but he's had his last!
