what is the preventive guidelines for computer virus infection?

They are listed in the Cert basic FAQ. Check out Lightnet.com for creating duplicate protected systems which will instantly recover your infected machine (system, programs, data and MBR.)  It takes up disk space but saves time and effort and disk space is cheap these days.
