The best time for breeding a dog differers with each breed. Naturally bigger dogs mature faster then younger dogs.  However each breed has its own ideal times. Personally I won't breed any of my Miniature Pinschers until they hit the age of 2 years old which hopefully they would have finished their championship.  If you breed a dog too young then you start playing with the dogs inability to carry puppies and other potential complications. But if you wait too long your dog may have the same problems. My advice would be to read up on your particular breed, and talk to some longstanding breeders.

The best time to breed your dog is there 2nd heat or 2 years of age.
Also like MinPins said it depends on the breed.
