A computer virus can not only delete your system/operating files but can also capture your private information and send it through email to everyone in your address book.  While most viruses are just an annoyance, some viruses can be very distructive.  Viruses are a plague for most people and a real terror for businesses that depend on networks and emails for daily business.  If a coportation is infected by a virus they run the risk of having to shut down their network until the virus can be quarantined and eliminated.  The cost of a virus on a corpoate network can range in the millions of dollars.
