The first step is consequently a thorough analysis of your network risks

Six key components:
1.   Make sure you know all the components of the network
2.   Know what the network is used for
3.   Define your policy for the security of the network (this may be a sub-policy of your overall Information Security policy)
4.   Undertake a formal Risk Assessment and Analysis on the
network
5.   Decide what countermeasures you need for (prioritised) risk areas
6.   Implementation of countermeasures.
