Hi,
I've got a fairly old (1980's) Sansui amp that's very noisy on startup. The noise is not speaker thump but comes from the amp itself. Someone said it was the transformer. After a short while the amp goes quiet and runs OK. What is the problem please and is it easily fixed.

Charlie

try this

open up your amp some amps just have screws others have wooden pikes just open it without damageing it then  when inside the amp clean with a paper towel or what ever the hell you have your not removeing the dust and crap your just clering it out of the way.  move the dust off all the surfaces like the power suply and such wipe the top of the transistors you should know what they look like and that should fix your problem

(i heard that swiffer duster works good at this)

NO WAY TO BE SURE WITHOUT LOOKING BUT GOOD POSSIBILITY YOUR FILTER CAPACITORS IN YOUR POWER SUPPLY OR POSSIBLY DECOUPLING CAPACITORS ARE DRYING OUT. THEY CONTAIN AN ELECTROLYTIC AND AFTER 10-15 YEARS ARE LIKE  BALD TIRES ON A CAR. REPLACEMENT INVOLVES GETTING THE SAME OR HIGHER VOLTAGE RATING AND SAME MFD.VALUE. AND IT IS IMPERATIVE TO OBSERVE POLARITY MARKINGS IF YOU PUT IT IN BACKWARDS IT WILL BLOW UP...NASTY AND DANGEROUS. ALSO THE FILTER CAPS,WHICH ARE THE LARGE ONES, RETAIN A CHARGE THAT COULD KILL THE UNHEALTHY AND SHOCK THE CRAP OUT OF YOU. FIND SOMEONE WITH FUNDAMENTAL ELECTRONICS KNOWLEDGE TO HELP YOU. FUZZY

I Have a 19977 sansui qrx5500 4 chanells I truly love this System. Don't want to get rid of it. Some time in 1983, I began to experiencing a play stop and started to play again. I took it for repair, but until this day, I am still experiencing this play and stop. As I am writing question ,I'm listenning to this system. I have been playing for the last 8 hours. Earlier I were listenning to AOL radio and it play and stop a few times. I'm still listenning to AOL radio., but the chipping out has not reacured. Do you have any suggestion for this problem? I would love to here from you.

Thank you
