Courtney,

Your best place to start is get in touch with someone in the golden breed club in your state.  You can try to search on the web or ask your local vet if they can help you to locate the breed club near you.
In the meantime learn all you can about the breed.  You can join a golden message board there are lots out there on the web.

Good Luck!  In my opinion goldens are the sweetest and most loving pets!  :-)

goldens have a wide range of prices depending on where you get them. Where I live the breeders sell them for $800-$2000, the lighter in color, the more expensive.

If you are just buying for a pet you could get one for less than that, especially if you get it from your local shelter. If you want a show dog it will cost more to get one that is bred to perfection with the right markings and bloodlines.

In the paper I am getting you can look in the classifieds and find about 7 adds for Goldies in the price range of $150-$300. $800+ is the price for the show style dogs but you don't need to pay that much if you just want a pet and companion.

I cost my owner $300 dollars and he tells me I'm worth every penny. Of course, I'd be worth a lot more if he knew I could type!!! (don't tell) I'm 12 years old, but just learned to type about two years ago. And they say Border Collies are smart.

Percy out.

hi im jess and i was abandoned at a shelter when i was a puppy. many owners fought to own me and offered lots of money to take me home because i was a pure golden retriever. finally one person came and offered $3000 so the shelter gave me to him. i shed lots of fur all over his really expensive furniture and he got very mad. he often beat me and left me without food for days on end. he got bored of me and dumped me in a ditch and then drove off. i was running out of energy and hope and couldn't even pull myself up out of the ditch when a kind old lady picked me up and took me to her home. she was by no means rich and didn't have a big house but it was warm and cosy and safe. i have lived there ever since in complete happiness.

If you would like to get a golden retriever then it would probably depend on where you live for how much they would cost. Also for where i live then they cost around $500.

We paid $750 for ours from a top breeder but I've seen them in the paper for $400-$650, depending if you want papers.  Ours came with a 2 year guarantee again stuff like hip dysplasia.  So I suggest getting from a good breeder that's been at it for a long time (20 years for outs) and is more concerned with the line than the $.  I know people who have bought from a pet store and had problems with the hips and it cost $2500 to fix.

Golden retreiver pups range from $150 to $800+... If you want a high bred show dog, $800+ would be the price. Or just a family dog, $150-$500... I looked in the newspaper, classifieds thers like 6 goldie adds so you can have a look there. peace.
