I've just gauged my ears to a 10g two days ago, and I'm looking to go down to about a 2-4g probably. But I wanna know how long should I wait before I take the tapers out and get plugs to fit a 10g? And how long should I wait before going to an 8g? I'm anxious, but I want them to be healthy.

Just wait till they don't hurt. IF they don't hurt you can put plugs threw them just don't take them out for long periods of time.  I usually waited 1 week - 3weeks for the next size.

wait a month, i was told, to change sizes.  i don't know, however, how long to wait to plug it.  all i know is stretching with acrylic isn't reccommended.  stretch with metal for example, then plug with acrylics if you want.

personally i wouldn't use a 10g plug.  i went from 14-8 in like, two seconds.  they never got infected or even that sore.  then i kept the 8g plugs in for about 4-5 days. and gauged them further.  i now have 00g in both ears and have never been infected or anything wrong with them and ive had them for about 6 months.  it took me about two weeks to go to 00g from 18g.

well i have been gaging my ears for about a year now and they are about a 5/8's inch.
when i started my ear was at a 14 g and i bought a tapper to make it 8g and i keep that taper in there for about a week and then put a plug in there for about one and a half to two weeks and then i gaged it up again to about a 2 i believe and keep the tappers and plugs in for about the same amount of time
my ears are perfectly fine and don't hurt at all and they are healthy looking so I'm sure if you do the same you'll be fine

you dont have to wait long to put in the plug, but you should wait 2 weeks before going up a size because it takes two weeks for the skin to regenerate and heal.

why would you even leave them in?
when you taper your ears just slide the taper straight through pull it out and then throw in the tunnels or plugs or whatever you are going to use.

Hey Hicubus, I'm at a 2g now, but that doesn't matter. I've never used a taper, but I have one in my ear right now.. The only way I could explain it, is don't take it out until it stops stinging or doesn't hurt when you pull on it or push it through... cause I took out my earring once before it completely healed and it began bleeding and I had to let it shrink a size smaller, which I didn't like.

Also, instead of buying tapers, I usually buy Pinchers, cause they're actually earrings, but like tapers (just bent). That way, I can just skip the taper and go straight to the earring. If u look at pictures, you'll see what I mean. newyz, good luck. Sorry, if I'm no good at advice. L8rz

Hey man...I'm definitely no expert on the situation but I did the same thing that you did except I skipped 14's.  i bought 10's knowing I wanted 8's just for the step.  I think that they were in for about a week before I popped 8's in and my ears are fine, and have been every since.

Hey gurly, just some advice. I have a 10 gauge in my holes right now and a 12 right above them.

1.you know your body best. Once the whole is comepletely healed (no pain, turns VERY easily, no redness or dryness, minor funny smells are normal) this is when you can safely take out the jewelry and put in the plug. Just keep it clean.

2. If you notice any infection or discomfort after putting in the plug, simply take it out, clean the hole and put the taper back in. It needs some more time to heal, then try again.

3. since it was just put in two days ago, give it about an estimated 3-4 weeks. But everybody's different, that's just how long I wait. Just listen to ur body.

4. After you have had the plugs in for a while (i'd say about two weeks) and their comfy for you, go for the 8gauge.

I hope I was some help, good luck. my email is sarataylorbailey@yahoo.com . tah tah!

well you can put a 10g plug in right away if you have the taper in it. it probably wasnt that smart to skip right to a 10g but whatever, you should never skip gauges. I would wait about 2 weeks before you get an 8 or at least until the swelling has gone down and you dont feel any pain in your holes.

you should wait about 2 weeks before putting plugs in. If you cant get them in just wait another week until they go in. You'rsupposto wait a month before gauging them again but I say as long as their not sore go for it. I went from 8 to 2 to 7/16 to 5/8 in a matter of 2 months.

WOW dude seriously dont buy plugs for 10ga ears. it looks extremely retarded. like everyone will label you as a poseur if you do that. even for 8ga ears. you can start buying plugs and stuff for 6ga once you stretch that much. seriously you could just do what i did (not as smart an idea..) i gauged from a 14 to a 4. just buy large gauge tapers and force the in. people with 10ga ears look like wimps.

I'd suggest you wait about 2 weeks, and make sure IT DOES NOT HURT or is still swollen when you make the transition... clean the area well *warm water+sea salt is a great and healthy cleaning solution... put neosporian in the hole also, helps healing and preventing the formation of scar tissue.

wait about 2.5-3 months before you gauge up again....

Good luck with the gaugeing and remember. it it hurts stop, and gauge when it doesn't.

right after you stretch it u can put the plugs in...its less painful this way rather than waiting two or three dayz and then disrupting the healing process and as for waiting its basically every two weeks it took me less than five months from piercing my ears to stretching them to a 5/8th inch hole!

For 10 guage I waited a week.  I pretty much waited a week to move to the next gauge until I got to 2, then I wait a little bit longer.  I'm selling all my old gauges if you need some let me know... Nickisa0@aol.com

I just shoved an 8 gauge into my ear today from a twelve, and it's pretty much already fine. The jewelry I put in it is sort of like a taper anyways. I imagine you won't have to wait very long at all to go to an eight.

It seems the general answer to this is wait at the very least a month, but i normally go 2 weeks into the month before i gauge again. And for the plugs part...I got 10g tapers that came with 2 10g plugs and i just put them in tonight and i had the tapers in about a week...i dunno if that was a bad idea or not but i dont think so.

Hey Man I have 0's in right now and its all a personal thing. Yes there is a hell issue involved but make sure you pick of up some ear care solution from like Claires, Hot Topic, Spencers, or your local piercing supply store. Keep using that stuff for 2 weeks I would say. But whenever you feel the ears can handle a switch then just pop the 10 G plugs in!

AH! Do it slowly. It's totally not a race. You'll get better results if you wait at least 2 weeks. Some say a month, but that's too long i suppose. So yeah, do that.

switch to tapers soon after the stretch. preferable, have sterilized tapers AND plugs ready when you do the stretch, so you cant just slide it right through and put the plugs in. tapers ARE NOT jewelry. DON'T WEAR THEM AS THAT.

okay here's the deal, many people will wait a few weeks. that's probably best. although, some ears can take a lot. for example, i went from an 18 to an 8 in two and a half days. if you're worried about it than two weeks is probably a safe bet unless they're still sore. Remember, keep it clean and piercings heal from the inside out. so it may look fine but still be healing

What they say to do, is to wait a month until the piercing is completely healed, then wait another couple of weeks to go up to the next size. I didn't follow that, lol. After I put in my 10g, I waited about a week and a half to push through the next one.. Then I waited a good amount of time.. Maybe 2-3 weeks to go to the next size. It all depends on whether you tore your ear or not.
The taper, after a couple days, you should be able to put the plug in, but it will be sore.. If you do put plugs in, you need to make sure that they are not plastic or novelty ones.. They need to be metal, until they are healed all the way, other wise, infection is more likely. Make sure you was your ears with antibacterial soap, and soak it in sea salt water. It will get rid of bacteria. They say not to use rubbing alcohol or peroxide because it dries the skin out, but I did, any my ears are ok.. Right now, I am at a 4g, and plan to go one more size, in the next week..
Good Luck!
