The alternator is under the engine.  You have to remove the whole front axle.  I just had it done a few months ago on my car.  It was like $200 in labor at a local mechanic shop.

OK here it is... first disconnect the negative and positive battery terminals and if unsure about keeping them clear remove battery. Next loosen passengers side wheel lug nuts and then jack up the car so you have room to move under the vehicle (you'll need it) and support vehicle with jack stands. Finish removing wheel. Then underneath remove the plastic shield that protects the lower pulleys from road debris. Should have a plastic clip going in toward the crank pulley that just pulls out and two or three small bolts that go up into the car body. Then from underneath reach up and carefully remove the alternator connectors one is a pinch clip which can be sticky but if you are patient you can just wiggle it gently as you pull and it will pop off then using a deep well socket remove the ground connector (I think it was an 11MM) Now'sthe not so fun stuff little hands help. There is one pivot bolt that allows the alternator two swing for adjustment it is on the bottom and I believe is 15MM be careful mine broke. and there are 3 15MM bolts that hod the alternator bracket to the engine these all need to come out I found a socket to be the best for the bolt in the bracket highest up and a wrench for the other three. After that crawl back out from under the car and look down below the power steering lines at the top of the alternator this is the lock nut that prevents the alternator from shifting ounce the belt tension is set. It's a 15MM and a bear to get at but a wrench is easiest. Take it off and the alternator is off but not out you have to bring the alternator down through the space between the engine and the inner fender and there isn't much room. You will swear, pinch fingers etc... So if you went to all this trouble make sure you get a good replacement alternator and a good belt, you don't want to be doing this again any time soon. Hope it helps.
