Jack Russell Terriers come in three coat types, Smooth, Broken, and Rough.  The rough coat is the one that looks wire-haired.  They are born that way or develop the coat within the first 3 or 4 months of their life.  My Jack Russells shed contantly, and I have had all three coat types.  They all shed enough hair to make a whole new dog out of the old hair within a week or two (I have 5).  We have old hair covered furniture, killer dust bunnies and don't wear black or dark blue clothes.  Small trade off for the pleasure they bring me otherwise.
