Yes there is a way to tell when she is ready other than them temp.
Her vulva will become very soft. (compare to how soft your lips are if you squish them with your fingers) also her back teats will become filled out and more cone shaped as compared to the others. Her teats  will begin to fill with white creamy colored milk. On the day she is due she may get a dark sticky type stool as well as she will have a little clear slick discharge from her vulva.

you can run your dog around the block like two time two have a forced labor but only do this if your dog is over the due date for its labor

I have a blue tick hound, How do I know if she is pregnant without taking her to the vet without paying $20-$30? Is there something simple I can do at home.

Your dog will get really lazy! My pit bull wouldn't get up to go out to use the bathroom the morning she had hers.
