I recently had our golden retriever bred at a stud service advertising in our local paper.  We left our 4-year old female at the stud service for several days.  (She had been bred previously about 1.5 years ago.)  When I pickup up our dog, she had been bitten.  The breeder said the swelling was a scratch that had happened when she and the stud dog were breeding.  The vet we took her to (the same day) shaved her muzzle to disclose 4 puncture wounds (inflicted by teeth).  The vet bill was $200.  We stopped payment on the $550 check for stud service.  Are we within our legal rights?  How does someone normally protect themselves from such an occurrence?

You are in your legal rights cause you saw the wounds.

Yes. I am a Stud dog owner. If I ever had a female at my house and she got bit I would have taken her to the vet my self, and not charged you. GoldyMom@aim.com
