I just purchased a bike for my son from a friend.  It is a miyata 1000 elevate with shimano parts.  Does anyone know what year this bike is, or how much it was worth new?

The Miyata 1000 is a touring model--longer wheelbase, and built to carry weight.   The mid-80s versions are highly regarded as one of the best production touring bikes of the time.  I'm looking for one myself, if your son tires of it, or wants something racier.

I have a Miyata 1000 I bought new in 1980 or 81, and I'll bet it only as 20 miles on it.  I bought it to get some excersize and started running instead. I just hung onto it, it has the original tires, and is in perfect condition. I even have the original manual.  I decided to sell it, so I am Cleveland, OH if someone wants it 440-821-1310
