My obstetric doctor said I had sugar in my urine today for a routine visit.  She did a finger stick in her office but did not give me the blood sugar level.  Diabetes runs in my family I am very much over weight and I had gestational diabetes about 8 years ago and had to go on insulin the last 4 months of my pregnancy. Here's my questions what is high?
If I go for a 12 hour fast what would be considered high and how high does it have to be for a doctor to say hey you need medication.  I am going to a dietician at our local hospital to help get some weight off and I know I need it but my doctor kind of scared me today because I don't think the finger stick was over 140.  This was done at 12:00 PM  and I had my last meal around 9:00AM.Don't you think that a fasting might show the true picture?  I know you don't play with Diabetes but any info you can give me about high/low levels in testing would be very appreciative.

Hi, I saw my diabetes doctor this past week and he told me that in the test that he did on my urine, there was protein and also sugar.  I have diabetes the last past 2 years, but I had gestational diabetes 11 years ago, now I take 3 different kinds of insulin, and my blood pressure is also very high, I take 3 different kinds of meds as well, he told me my cholesterol is down since my last check up 3 months ago. I would like to find out if this is bad news or is it a natural thing since I have diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol.  Thank you for your time Myriam
