LP in the record business stands for 'Long Play(ing)' usually referring to a 12" Record of one song in an extended version.

An LP is a long playing record...
basically a standard album used to come out on LP's, so its a way of measuring amount of work, as in:
i went plat four times, thats off one LP

An LP is usually referring to a vinyl record, but it can apply to cds too, since people still call those albums. It means Long Play, I'm pretty sure, and refers to a a full album, which is usually at least 30 minutes long, in my book. Not a single or an EP.

it refers to the time when records were big and it means Long Play or it was another name for a 33 1/2 rpm record.
