I have a 99 Chrysler Sebring Coupe I had the driver side door handle break off in my hands. Now the passenger side handle has broken. When I replaced the driver side handle there was a gentleman who had the same thing happen to him. I was wondering if any others have had this problem?

Yes...as a matter of fact on my 2000 Sebring BOTH handles broke off in my hand today in the space of 1 minute.  Luckily the passenger door opened and I could crawl across the center console.  I let the back seat down so I can get in through my trunk...good thing I don't wear a lot of dresses to work...mostly jeans!  I'm taking it into the dealership tomorrow and telling them to replace them...that this is a faulty part that many Sebrings seem to have!

I have a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and the exact same thing happened to me. Both PLASTIC handles on the slider doors broke within a week of each other.  I called Chrysler and there has been no complaints or recalls on the handles.  I called the dealer and they want $80 a piece! Sounds like a product defect!

I have had the same thing happen to my 1998 Sebring. The dealer told me it would cost 150 for the part and labor. Seems a bit steep to me.

They have to do something about this. I have the same problem with my '99. I have also seen some black '99's with the clear coat coming off like mine.

Same problem.  First place I went to try to get one (not the dealer, who wants to overpay?), the guy guessed what kind of car I have in 2 tries.  Then he told me that the first two guesses and the next guess he would have had are all basically the same door handle.  He gets a dozen requests a week because it's a popular door handle that breaks a LOT.

I have a 200 Sebring and have had the same thing happen.  I went to the local U-pull it yard and all of the 9 Sebrings/Avengers they had all had the door handles broken or had been previously removed (by someone with the same problem we have.

Ditto, 2000 LXI, these door handles are junk and they should have recalled them. My driver side handle went first then the passenger side went. This is junk work for a car that cost so much. We have to replace door handles. Think about it!!! I will never buy a Chysler again.

This is a common problem w/Sebrings and Chrysler Corp. doesn't care.  They consider it a wear & tear kind of bit.  But they're a lot of Sebrings in my area sporting the same look.  LOL!

Try the junkyard for the replacement of that part... $5 to $10 should be the cost.

yes i have a 99 sebring coupe lxi but my passenger broke and the other didn't but i had mine replaced. the thing is that the door handles on the sebring/ avenger / eclipse are made of a cheap plastic and are easily broken it would be different it they were made of a metal or a stronger plastic
