I got my tongue pierced a month ago. the swelling is gone and the top has healed perfectly but the bottom has somewhat of a scar tissue build up. I want to change the barbell due to difficulty talking with out a lisp. i have a very small mouth and a tiny tongue. My friends have all changed theirs at different times but i want to know when it will be safe to move to a smaller barbell.

Well i got my tongue peirced 2 weeks ago, still havent changed it cos i cant decide whether the new barbell will fit yet or not. however my piercer said i can change it in a week if the swelling has gone down because the sooner you change it the better as its more likely you chip your teeth with the large barbell.

The best advice that can be given is to just go back to your piercer. They are normally more than happy to help and can advise the best course of action. Normally you can move to a smaller barbell within 10 - 14 days from piercing, but I would definitely go see the piercer and let them have a look. It just might be the way its healed thats all, and you could move straight to the smaller one without any troubles.

They will be able to answer all your questions.

ive heard that when you have your tongue pierced, some peoples swell up so bad that they cant breathe, im planning on getting mine done, but the thought of not been able to breathe scares me a little, i was wondering if anyone could tell me if this swelling takes place often or just in rare cases?
