After having the tattoo you will have to prevent it from soaking for about 2 weeks but this can vary depending on your bodies ability to heal. While the tattoo is healing you need to make sure it doesn't get too dry this can be prevent by vaseline or savlon or anything that mousturises the skin.

Basically you should stay out of pools, hot tubs, so on and so forth until the tattoo is COMPLETELY healed.

It is best to get a tattoo during the winter time basically because the beams from the sun in the summer time are the strongest and can destroy a tattoo.
