My dog is missing a patch of hair and his skin looks as if the top layer is gone.(almost like a horrible burn on a person)  The patch is slimy and is on his neck and looks like it is spreading around only in the neck area. Do you have any idea what it could be?

did anyone answer your question?  I'm searching the web for the answer myself.  The inside of my greyhound's back leg had a bright red patch, like a burn, but I can't imagine that's what it was.  There was never any fur there to start out with, but now the skin has disappeared.  I've been putting antibiotic cream on it 2x daily but can't imagine what caused the problem.  It is tender.
