I have tried several pre-compiled versions of awk/gawk and cannot get any to accept the single quote character " ' " as the delimiter for the awk command text.  Using double quotes will work, but quoted text within is not handled properly.  I am well versed with awk in the Unix environment, and am trying to establish similar capabilities on my PC, but this symantic road block is killing me.  Am I missing something simple here?  Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.
