Does anyone have any experience with American Bulldog /Pit Bull crosses? I got a puppy from the shelter and he's 50%Pit and 50% Am Bulldog. The lady said that normally he would have been put down because this is considered a dangerous mix. Because of the high prey drive of the Pit and the human agressiveness of the American Bulldog.

this is true of both breeds but with proper socialization, this cannot be stressed enough you get one shot at it with a pup the human contact a dog has the first13 wks is the building blocks 4 the rest of its life introduce it to many people even total strangers take it to the pet store regularly park people love puppys use this to curb this aggression your dog will naturally learn discression with strangers and there will always be that weird person that dogs just dont like.

My husband and i have a 50/50 mix, american bulldog and pitbull.  He has the best temperment of any dog i have ever had. We made sure to socialize him with other dogs and children. He sleeps with us and lays in our laps like a small lap dog. He is the first to give sloppy kisses when someone walks thru our door. We know all of his off-spring and they are all just as friendly.  We hope that we can get another dog just  like him.
(one bit of advice: they need lots of love!)

You should concider this a dangerous mix. I wouldn't trust the dog around small children or other dogs. My AB is very agressive with the same sex dog and is very territorial. My AB will attack a stranger if we are not present.  My parents raise Pits and as you know they are very dog agressive. This kind of dog will need proper training and a very good owner who is willing to take the time that is needed to spend with the dog. I've learned the more you socialize the better.

I have been researching the American bulldog for quite some time now and everything i have heard and read says that this breed is a gentle loving companion.  Good with people, children and pets.  Proper socialization is key.

i have a pit bull and an american bull dog at home. They are my babies. Neither one of them have a mean bone in their body. Both are great. American bull dogs will defend you, but only when needed. Mine at home is more goofy than anything. Both breeds have lots of personality. You should enjoy your dog

It Doesn't matter what kind of dog it is. A dog is a dog. Chihuahuas are more aggressive than the past pitbulls i have had. It's how you treat them and train them to be.

Two weeks ago I adopted a pit/American Bulldog Mix from the pound.  She is a handful but I just love her. she spends most of her time biting, chewing, or all the above on my poor older boxer.  She is very spunky but that is not unlike most other puppies.  She is now almost nine weeks and close to being potty trained.
I have not had any experience with this exact breed either.  I'm curious to see how big shes going to get.  Have you gotten any useful information?

this all depends on dam and sires temparment pitts are loving to people unless taught otherwise.
american bulldogs are ex-cattle dogs same as pitts only pitts where bred more for fighting,an abs for herding an guarding you need to exercise extere caution when raising this dog an do not allow it to show any aggressive tendancies to dog or people or allow it to chase dogs or people even in play.with a firm but loving hand and consistant obedience training. you have what i would decribe as the ultimate dog able to look after you and himself.if a dog set about him he would win hands down so dont let him get in those situations. if you were attacked by someone i wouldnt want to imagine the lenghts this dog would go to to save you. BUT REMEMBER HE CAN DO NONE OF THESE THINGS WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE, HE SHOULD BE YOUR BEST FRIEND

I'm a single mom w/ a 3yr old little boy who like to climb & sit on Rudy my 1yr male. I have two Pit / American Bulldogs, Rudy & Andy who's 11wks. The 1yr'snot dog/cat/people or food agressive. He's a  90 lbs rednose, intack male, but not for long. The other one's a brindle/ white 16lbs @ 11wks who will also be neutered @ 6mo. I made sure I got the calmest male puppy from that litter. I like males, they're better tempered to me in general. Andy's alittle picky over the food, but I'm doing the temperment testing on him daily & putting him on his back making sure he doesn't squirm then I let him loose, I pull his ears & handle his feet, & open his mouth several times during the day, to keep him conditioned to being handeled, especially sine I have a 3yr old little boy. It's all about their temperment & raising! Rudy the 1yr is the best dog I've ever owned, now I'm hooked. Both dogs prefer the lap, sleep on the bed & share a very large food bowl as well as water. Rudy (1yr) likes the garbage men, uniforms & black/white/hispanic people, he just doesn't care!!. I rescued him @ 4mo from a teenager trying to turn him agressive, well Rudy just doesn't have it in him. Little Andy came from a good home.

Hi I have had much expirence with pitbull american bull dogs crosses. That lady doesnt know any thing. My dog is mixed AB APBT and he is the most loving dog I have ever seen. He does have a strong drive but Its VERY IMPRORTENT THAT YOU TRAIN THEM. BRING THEM AROUND PEOPLE AND OTHER DOGS. GIVE HIM LOTS OF TOYS AND GET HIM PLENTY OF EXCERCISE AND EVERY THING WELL BE FINE. I hate people that kills dogs just because of breed its sick and inhumane. just show the dog lots of love and everything well be fine.

i am suprised you were able to get this dog from the pound i have tried to get several of them but they have all been put down for no other reason than being born
you have a good mix love it and show it love and this dog will love you back and protect you even if the cost is its life do not allow children or adults to aggravate this dog they will not put up with it and they are so strong that even a warning can hurt a child badly

I have an American Bull Dog/Pit Bull mix and i love her more than anything!  She is such a great dog and has never given me any problems.  I heard the same thing about the breed, that they are dangerous and not to have them around children, but she is very gentle. Its all about how you raise that animal.  Any pet can be a good pet.
