I am scared to let my 18 month old beagle off her leash in our open yard because of the "scent" trait in her.  My Rottwieler has learned to never leave the yard, can my beagle be trained to do the same?

Thanks

I would never, ever, let my beagle off leash in my yard. You are right about their scent trait. Combined with their stubborn personality, Its a deadly combination. As loyal as they are, they lose all control when they pick up a tempting scent and could be off in a flash.  Keep your beagle safe and happy and keep him on a nice long leash or get a fenced in yard.  I have made the mistake and been right there with him and ended up running through yards in the pouring rain, crying my eyes out searching for my crazy dog!! Thank God he was found safe and sound sniffing away!!
